The 2-4-6-8 Diet is a method of weight loss commonly found online in discussion forums and passed on informally. This method is a reduction in calories to extremely low levels – below that of starvation and sometimes even lower than 500 calories per day. The goal of this method of weight loss is to keep the metabolism at a different rate. This really isn’t a diet – it’s in fact a behavior commonly associated with eating disorders, and in no way or form is actually safe. The amounts suggested to eat under this supposed plan are simply too low for the body to actually function healthily.

In actuality, starving oneself only causes the body to retain as much food as it can, and the body burns muscle rather than fat.

Starvation is never the answer, no matter what the circumstances. Eating disorders are both mental and physical diseases, the symptoms of which include resorting to drastic weight loss techniques as the 2-4-6-8 Diet. There are certainly safe way to gradually lose weight, and this is by no means one of them.
