Acetyl l-carnitine is an amino acid. Amino acids are considered building blocks for protein. The body produces acetyl l-carnitine as it aids in energy production. The medical uses for this product are focused on memory and brain function, not weight loss. When dieters take l-carnitine, the body can convert that supplement into acetyl l-carnitine. Acetyl l-carnine can also be converted back into l-carnitine, depending on the needs of the body. Some men use acetyl l-carnitine to fight the effects of male menopause.

List of Ingredients

Acetyl L-Carnitine.

Product Features

Patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, memory-related symptoms of aging and male menopause may use acetyl l-carnitine to fight symptoms. There is clinical evidence the ingredient is effective for these conditions. Studies have also tested the amino acid for relief of HIV symptoms and improved blood flow to the brain with positive results. While there are many proven uses for acetyl l-carnitine, none involve weight loss or muscle gains.

While acetyl l-carnitine is considered safe for most dieters, there are a few conditions that may be affected by the amino acid when taken in supplemental form. Patients with an underactive thyroid should not use acetyl l-carnitine as it may interfere with thyroid function. An increased number of seizures have been reported in patients with seizure history when taking l-carnitine. Because l-carnitine converts to acetyl l-carnitine in the body, these patients are advised not to supplement with products containing acetyl l-carnitine. There are no proven effects on weight loss associated with acetyl l-carnitine.

There are some clinical studies that support the use of acetyl l-carnitine to improve how the body reacts to food metabolism. Specifically, the amino acid may help regulate glucose response. This could be the reason some diet supplements include it. If glucose is regulated, hunger may not be as severe between meals. This is a stretch, but weight loss supplement manufacturers are used to stretching the truth to fit their needs.

Acetyl l-carnitine supplements are available online for less than $10 a bottle.

I have started using Acetyl L-carnitine about 6 weeks ago in the raw powder form. Lately I stirr 1 tea spoon into a small amount of water. About 3 times per day. which is the best, taking the raw form of powder or stirr it into some water, and how much is enough. I’m taking it for all it’s benefits, specially for better brain and memory function. My job is very stressfull and I do feel I benefit by it. Please reply.
