Every once in a while we come across a supplement that clearly cleaned out the supplement bank to formula a single supplement with all the most popular ingredients. BioLean is one of those supplements. The ingredient list offers quite the variety with caffeine and citrus aurantium heading up the list. These two stimulants are commonly found in weight loss products, but that doesn’t mean BioLean is a safe and effective supplement.

Product Features

Caffeine is the first ingredient listed and that means it is the heaviest in the proprietary blend. Most dieters look at mg as dosage, but mg is a weight. Caffeine, in this case, accounts for 250.5 mg of the 2,492 mg blend. That means more than 10% of the product is caffeine. How much caffeine is 250.5 mg – more than the dose in your average no-sleep medication available over the counter.

As if packing 250 mg of caffeine into each dose of BioLean wasn’t enough, the company throws in synephrine as the second ingredient. Synephrine is a stimulant similar in structure to ephedra. Unfortunately for synephrine users, the ingredient carries some of the same side effects as ephedra, but none of the clinically proven benefits.

Aside from the strong stimulant quality of BioLean, there are a couple additional issues. Phenylalanine may affect mood, especially in patients with mental health issues like depression and anxiety. If you are allergic to phenylketonurics you should not take BioLean.

Calcium is added to the weight loss powder, but magnesium is not listed on the ingredient list. We did find mention of magnesium twice in the other ingredients, but we are unsure how much is added. Calcium in supplement form is best taken with magnesium to help ease constipation associated with calcium intake.

Advantages

  • BioLean lists all ingredients in the formula on the official website.
  • Caffeine will boost metabolism.

Disadvantages

  • Too much caffeine can cause negative side effects.
  • BioLean claims the supplement will not interrupt sleep, but 250 mg of caffeine will indeed disrupt sleep for some dieters.

Conclusion

BioLean could be a dangerous and over-stimulating supplement for some dieters. We never suggest dieters take 250 mg of caffeine in one dose; let alone in combination with another stimulant like synephrine.
