What You Should Know
Founded in 1992 in Vienna, Austria, Biotivia is a natural supplement distributor that primarily uses Resveratrol, a grape extract, in their anti-aging, skin care, fitness and weight loss supplements. With recent expansion into the United States, Germany and China, their supplements are currently available worldwide in health supplements stores, including GNC and Drugstore.com.
Many of Biotivia’s weight loss and fitness supplements are said to include ingredients that promote thermogenesis, a process where the body’s metabolism is synthetically increased to promote quick, sustainable weight loss. They also claim to include appetite suppressants, such as Hoodia Gordonii and Garcinia Gambogis. Many of these supplements are available in supplement “bundles”, which may cost up to $150.00 (single bottles cost anywhere from $39.95 to $74.95). They also include a 100% money back guarantee.
But does it really, truly work? Let’s find out.
The core ingredients included in their weight loss supplements include Hoodia Gordonii, Fucoxanthin, Garcinia Gambogis and Resveratrol. The core ingredients included in their fitness supplements include Resvertrol and Polygonum cuspidatum.
Taken daily, Biotivia claims the power of Resveratrol provides the best benefits, reducing cravings and promoting better sleep, lower blood sugar and increased energy. According to the scientific journal Cell, there is clinical evidence Resveratrol may improve endurance and stamina, making it a favored fitness aid for bodybuilders. There is also evidence it may reduce plaque buildup in the brain, a believed cause of Alzheimer’s disease. But none of these studies showed Resveratrol promoted weight loss.
Hoodia Gordonii, another touted appetite suppressant, also contains no scientific evidence proving it may cause weight loss. One small study in the United Kingdom showed it caused some weight loss for a small group of patients, but this result has not been replicated since, indicating the study’s results may not be reliable.
Fucoxanthin, which Biotivia also claims causes weight loss, was shown in one study to cause a 10% body weight reduction in rats. Scientists believe this occurred because it targets a key protein called UCP1, increasing the rate of fat burning processes around the abdomen.
Overall, Biotivia contains many ingredients that have not been proven to cause weight loss in many studies–but Fucoxanthin, one of its appetite suppressant ingredients, does have some potential.
- Fucoxanthin may cause weight loss.
- Biotivia products are available worldwide, both online and in health supplement stores.
- Many of its ingredients may not have any provable thermogenic benefits.
- Biotivia’s products are very expensive.
Like many diet and fitness supplements, it may not contain enough thermogenic ingredients to promote long, sustainable weight loss. Although Fucoxanthin shows some promise, many of its other ingredients have not been proven to promote significant weight loss in scientific studies.
