It takes massive amounts of energy to compete is some sports. Cycling, for instance, burns more carbohydrates and energy than the body can store. If the cyclist does not consume massive amounts of calories before, during and after competition, the body will fail. CarboLoad is designed for the athlete competing in intense sports like cycling. Each serving contains 95 grams of carbohydrates and no additives. The carbohydrate source is maltodextrin, a common ingredient in bodybuilding shakes. The average dieter will not work out long or hard enough to require a supplement like CarboLoad. This product is reserved for extreme athletes and bodybuilders.

Extreme athletes with sugar sensitivity or diabetes should not use this product with express consent from their attending physician. Taking 95 grams of carbohydrates in one serving can cause negative side effects, including death, for the diabetic.

Product Features

CarboLoad is a Deluxe Nutrition product, but we found several other products with the same name. Before ordering this product, make sure you are ordering from a human supplement website. Two other products are available for plants and horses under the same CarboLoad name. While both are carbohydrate supplements, they are not approved for use by humans.

Carbohydrates are the first fuel source the body uses during exercise. Carbs are quickly and easily converted into energy. The body stores about 400 grams of carbohydrates or 1600 calories. Intense sports burn more than 1600 calories within a few hours, so where does the body turn next for fuel – protein. The only source of protein the body can access during exercise is muscle. Athletes want to protect muscle so drinking carbohydrate products like CarboLoad supplies the body with more carbohydrates so there is more easy fuel.

Just because you are performing a biking race or taking a two to three hour bike ride does not mean you are burning enough calories to use CarboLoad. We may sound like a broken record, but this supplement is for extreme exercise that shocks the muscle and lasts longer than a couple hours. A marathon runner, for instance, will burn more than 1600 calories and they will use up all carbohydrate stores.

Advantages

  • Ingredients are listed online for CarboLoad.
  • Ideal for extreme athletes.
  • Contains no added ingredients.

Disadvantages

  • Not designed for weight loss.
  • Dangerous for diabetic athletes.

Conclusion

Extreme athletes burn a lot of fuel and that fuel needs to be replaced. Carbohydrates supplements are available in a variety of forms, but most athletes stick with gels and thick liquid supplements because more carbohydrates fit into a smaller space in the stomach. This product is not ideal for use during activity, but it does work for replenishing stores after exercise and competition.
