Carnivore Liquid Shots contain 50 grams of protein and nothing more. Each shot supplies 200 calories. The calories are all from the protein so there the bodybuilder is not wasting any calories on carbohydrates, but the source of protein is unique. Carnivore, as the name implies, is sourced from beef. We’re not sure how this effects absorption or effectiveness and the manufacturer does not address why beef protein is used over whey protein. We did find a review of the protein shot from a bodybuilder who is lactose intolerant. This protein shot is ideal for bodybuilders with this condition or a milk allergy.

The cost of Carnivore compared to other forms of protein is outrageous. A 12-pack of Carnivore Shots costs more than $50 with shipping and handling. Whey protein costs less and it is more widely used.

Product Features

Beef protein, according to the product description, is more effective than whey protein. We’re sure there are hundreds of very strong bodybuilders willing to fight the case against this claim, but we will take the information for what it’s worth. Whey protein is the most popular source of protein for bodybuilders, but some athletes cannot use milk-based products, so there is a need for alternative sources of protein.

The amino acid profile in Carnivor Shots is excellent, but whey protein supplements contain the same branched chain amino acids. Glutamine is added to the protein shot to replenish muscle energy stores and prevent muscles from breaking down due to lack of fuel. Whey protein products are available with glutamine, as well.

Carnivore Shots would have to be reserved for the bodybuilder with problems taking milk products. Otherwise, the bodybuilder is just taking a supplement that costs more than whey and may be harder to digest.

  • The shot is fat free.
  • Ideal for bodybuilders who cannot take milk-based protein.

  • Costs much more than whey protein.

There are various sources of protein ranging from milk to peas and other vegetables. We’ve even looked into hemp protein, but none are as expensive as Carnivore Shots. Beef may taste great for dinner but spending more than $4 per shot is not necessary if there are no underlying reasons to choose beef over whey.
