Ciplatrim is sibutramine, offered in the United States as Meridia. Due to negative side effects, including heart related issues like heart attack and stroke, the manufacturer of Meridia chose to take the medication off the market. Despite being pulled from the United States market, sibutramine is still sold in other countries under the brand name Ciplatrim. According to the the official website for Ciplatrim, Cipla Medpro, the medication is offered in 10mg and 15mg doses. There is no mention of the potential side effects associated with taking sibutramine or Ciplatrim.

List of Ingredients

Sibutramine.

Product Features

In the United States, Ciplatrim (Meridia) was marketed with a series of television commercials showing overweight women who finally took control of their eating habits. The commercial showed women leaving just a bit of food on the plate because the medication helped them feel better about losing weight. The drug was never marketed as a miracle drug because diet and exercise was needed to lose weight on the plan.

Ciplatrim is associated with heart attack and stroke, but moreover, the dieter must continue taking the drug indefinitely even when they have reached their goal weight. According to the drug description, dieters may stop losing weight within 6 months of starting the drug therapy and if that happens, they must continue taking the drug. If they stop taking the drug, weight will return. This is not a long-term solution, especially if the medication increases health risks that could lead to death.

Cipla Medpro is a company based in South Africa. There is no mention of export agreements between the company and other countries, so we assume Ciplatrim is only available in South Africa. The medication is available by prescription only. There is no pricing information for the drug as South Africa has universal health care, which means the drug price is zero for anyone prescribed the medication in the country.

Advantages

  • May help the dieter lose weight taking the prescription medication.
  • Costs nothing to for people in South Africa.

Disadvantages

  • Sibutramine is linked to heart attacks and stroke.
  • The dieter must take the medication indefinitely to maintain weight loss.
  • Ciplatrim is not available in the United States.
  • Sibutramine is not available in the United States.

Conclusion

No matter the name you use for sibutramine, Meridia or Ciplatrim, the prescription medication is linked to heart attack and stroke. The drug was pulled in the United States where it is not longer legally sold. Dieters must take sibutramine for life in order to maintain weight loss. If the drug is linked to health risks, there is no reason to start taking the medication

I was one of the first people in SA to take Ciplatrim. I took Ciplatrim for 9 months in 2010 and went from 114kg to 76kg. I am now back to 110kg. This pill is NOT a miracle drug, when you stop taking it you gain all the weight back and then some. The ONLY way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat less and exercise more. There is no secret to weight loss. I’m just too lazy to get on with it. And out of the kilos that I lost, most of it was lean muscle and not fat. I would not advise anyone to take this pill should it ever return.

DEAR READERS. I WORK FOR A DR IN SOUTH AFRICA AND WILL BE TESTING CIPLATRIM OUT MYSELF BUT PLEASE BE CAREFULL OF DUROMINE, ITS KNOWN FOR INSOMNIA. OUR PHARMACY WARNS ALL PATIENTS OF NO SLEEP FOR THE DURATION OF DUROMINE INTAKE. NO MATTER THE MG. YES YOU SHOULD READ THE INSERT BUT DONT ALWAYS THINK IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. USE IT BUT AS SOON AS THINGS CHANGE CONSULT YOUR DR OR PHARMACIST AND YOU WILL THEN NOW WHAT TO DO BEFORE IT BECOMES EXTREME. PREGNANCY WEIGHT IS TUFF TO LOOSE I’VE TRIED FOR A YEAR NOW. RELISLIM ONLY HELPS UP UNTIL A POINT AND NO FURTHER. WILL KEEP YOU POSTED

I took it for only 3 weeks and lost 14 Kilos, i shed the weight because it completely took away my apetite and i actually was forgetting to eat, my boss was forcing me to eat lunch with them every day, i know this was not healthy however i got the results i was looking for and i didnt have to take it anymore, and i managed to keep the weight off for 4 years until i had my baby this year, i am now 10 Kilos overweight and am really struggling to lose it, i am looking for ciplatrim in the Johannesburg North area but dont have a prescription does anyone know where i can purchase from? Good luck to you all i hope you have the same results i did, although i wouldnt recommend taking for long periods i do know it has harmful side effects.

Hi I took Ciplatrim for 6 months last year and lost all the weight I wanted to. I have since been diagnosed with a thyroid antibody disorder and have been piling on the weight again! I train at gym for an hour everyday with no results so I have started taking Ciplatrim again I have now been on it for over a month with no weight loss? Can my body become immune to Ciplatrim and should I try Duromine? Tks

Hi I took Ciplatrim for about 6 months earlier this year and lost my weight nicely. I then stopped and during this time developed a thyroid problem. I have started taking Ciplatrim again and have been on it for over a month with no weight loss can my body become immune to it and the people on duramine suggest I give that a try? I would really appreciate some advice. Tks.

Hi have been using Ciplatrim 15mg for the last month and could already feel the difference and see the difference on the scale in the first week. However, it is not a miracle drug – you need to check what you eat. I stopped with ALL fizzy drinks and sugar, and try and cut out bread & Starches (I do sometimes cheat, every once in a while)and it still works. I find that it doesn’t take away your appetite but while you eat you get full really quickly and I end up with quite a bit of food left on my plate (which is unusual for me :) … No side-effects so far (but my Doctor did say I need to take a Multivitamin with it or a Vitamin B complex. Drink lots of water during the day and you will start seeing the fatty rolls disappear! My Fiance also started using it a week ago, and he is feeling confident and not having any side-effects either… (don’t use it continously for longer than 3 months – give yourself a 2 week break in-between before you start with your next 6 months (as recommended by my Doc)

    Hi Guys
I took Reductil when i lived in Costa Rica, and as far as i know Cipla trim is the generic, i took it for 3 weeks and lost 14 Kilograms, of course its not healthy to lose weight that quickly but i kept it off for 4 years until i had a baby, i am now battling to lose the baby weight and am looking to purchase it again just for another 2 – 3 weeks, i didnt have much of an apetite but when i did i ate what ever i wanted… im a bread lover :(
Any ideas where i can get it in Johannesburg without prescription?

South Africa does NOT have universal health care; we pay a fortune to be able to afford medical care; and therefor the medication is not free, in Gauteng it is nearly R400.00 per monthly supply. If you got information that is so freely available wrong, what else in this article is incorrect? Sorry, but accuracy in this type of article is critical for the information to be taken seriously

Ciplatrim is not a freeby in South Africa. It costs approximately R264 per box *Supply for 30 days. (If converted to dollars, yes, maybe a freeby. but buying in Rands, it is actually quite expensive in the RSA.

i have been using ciplatrim for three days now and im experiencing awfull back pain and head aces. im using 15mg should i change to 10 mg or wil this after effects go away after a few days of using?

    [Reply]

Hi Aileen, Becareful of Ciplatrim it has the same ingredient as simplyslim, which has been banned. I am currently investigating this product. My sister used ciplatrim for four months, lost 20 kgs, developed constipation so she stopped using the pills. She kept on losing weight, became listless, had back ache sore stomach and was finally diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Does this have anything to do with Ciplatrim?….. I dont know but she was healthy until she started with the pills, there are so many side effects… maybe if she had cancer already this could have sped it up she is already in her fourth stage!
