CytoSport CytoCarb is a carbohydrate powdered used as part of an after workout shake in the bodybuilding industry. Carbohydrates supply energy to muscles to promote the recovery process. This supplement is not created for weight loss, but increasing lean muscle mass could result in a leaner, fitter body. Bodybuilders should take four scoops within one hour of finishing a workout. This is considered the “Golden Hour” when muscles need carbohydrates most.

List of Ingredients

Dextrose and Maltodextrin.

Product Features

CytoSport CytoCarb is not a supplement for dieters. The powder will cause a rise in blood glucose and a subsequent fall. It is this fall that causes sugar cravings after eating simple carbohydrates or other starchy foods. Dieters typically take supplements to maintain a normal blood glucose level, but no natural supplement is strong enough to reverse the effects of a carbohydrate powder like CytoSport CytoCarb.

Just four scoops of the CytoSport CytoCarb contains 210 calories and 53 grams of carbohydrates. Despite being high-carb, the label claims only 3.5% of the carbohydrates are from sugar. The Dextrose Equivalent, DE, used in the supplement qualifies as a complex carbohydrate.

CytoSport CytoCarb sells for less than $10 for a 2-pound container. One container has 16 servings. The user is supposed to drink two servings per day so one canister lasts only 8 days. This brings the total price of use to $40 or more a month in addition to creatine and other bodybuilding supplements.

Despite the claim that CytoSport CytoCarb contains only complex carbohydrates, this supplement should not be used by dieters with diabetes. Supplementing with any type of carbohydrate powder could lead to an unhealthy reaction.

  • All nutritional and ingredient information is clearly marked on the product label.

Disadvantages

  • Dieters should not use this supplement as it contains straight carbohydrates.
  • The supplement may cause a rise and fall of blood glucose levels, leading to intense hunger.
  • One canister lasts only 8 days.
  • Could cause weight gain.
  • Increase the total cost of bodybuilding.
  • Will not increase metabolism or calorie burn.

Conclusion

CytoSport CytoCarb is a straight carbohydrate supplement. Bodybuilders take carbohydrates to decrease recovery time after a workout. This supplement is not designed to help a dieter lose weight or increase metabolism. The powder contains empty calories so the dieter will likely gain weight if they use this supplement twice a day. However, if used with a regular weight training program, CytoSport CytoCarb may reduce the time it takes for muscles to recover and thus the time it takes to build new muscles. Dieters wishing to lose weight should choose a fat burning supplement with a strong appetite suppressant.
