Eat Your Way to Happiness is a book written by Elizabeth Somer. Somer is a registered dietician who uses the book to advise readers about how to eat the right foods to improve mood, stop cravings, and lose the weight you need to get to your target. Somers maintains that many of the “normal” foods we eat work against us to make us tired, which makes us grouchy and unpleasant. The plan she presents in the book is built around nutrient dense foods to naturally increase your energy levels to motivate you so you can lose weight on your own. When you eat the right foods, you can be happier, healthier, more calm, and actually more likely to stick to the program long enough to get the results you want.

Somer gives a combination of foods you should eat for breakfast that will fuel your body for the whole day, and keep you mentally focused and alert until bedtime. She discusses how complex carbs or low glycemic index foods and healthy fats (omega 3s) can help you lose weight and improve your mood. She says your diet should be around 75% real foods, those that have not been processed: fresh produce, lean meats, nuts, seeds, etc. There is a list of 12 super foods to give you a postive mood while still supporting your weight loss efforts. There are “one minute” breakfast ideas, and the rest of the plan is surrounded by 1600 calories per day broken down into three meals, one snack, and a dessert every single day. She also talks about how chocolate benefits health, and what foods you can eat to make yourself sleep better at night.
