The Hawaii Diet was developed by a medical doctor by the name of Dr. Terry Shintani. Dr. Shintani obtained a master’s degree in nutrition from Harvard University and Shintani got his medical degree from the University of Hawaii. The Hawaii Diet focuses on a unit of measurement that Shintani coined the “Shintani Mass Index”. This diet also strongly focuses on religion and spirituality and states that this is very important to success in this diet. Users will only be able to eat certain foods and must adhere to eating 2,500 calories per day. The food choices are mainly vegetarian and users must stick with this diet as a lifestyle change in order to sustain their results.
