IsoFlex Review - Does This Protein Shake Actually Work?

By Summer Banks on Oct 27, 2016
IsoFlex Review

In the weeks that led to this review, I figured out whether IsoFlex protein powder actually works. We did one of our in-depth investigations, examining the ingredients, side effects, clinical studies and customer-service quality. We additionally looked at hundreds of user remarks and comments from all over the internet. Finally, we compressed all of the facts and feedback we found in order to give you the info you need.

EDITOR'S TIP:

What is IsoFlex?

To begin with, IsoFlex is a supplement is intended to help build lean muscle mass, reduce hunger, speed up recovery after workouts and assist with weight management. The ingredients include whey protein isolate complex, branched chain amino acids, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, and natural and artificial flavors. This is a protein powder that is added to five ounces of cold water or milk. It comes in various flavors such as banana, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, pineapple coconut, cookies and cream, orange dreamsicle, and caramel macchiato.

From what we can tell, IsoFlex protein powder has been available since at least 2009. It is made by AllMax Nutrition. This fitness supplement is free of gluten, fat and sugar. Furthermore, you can buy this product via online stores such as Amazon and bodybuilding.com, but read on…

Unpleasant Taste – “Can You Stomach This?”

One concern we have is with the unpleasant taste. According to our Research Editor, “Some customers have complained about the overall flavor and texture of IsoFlex protein powder. The problem is if you can’t handle drinking this shake regularly, it will not benefit you.”

One user stated, “Strongly artificially-sweetened. Nonetheless, I made a shake because I spent $30 on it, so might as well give it a shot. I could not choke it down. It is just awful.”

Then again, a different customer said, “The flavor is not great, nor is it bad. I will use it until it’s gone.”

“Once you get used to the aftertaste, it’s okay. Not creamy at all like most protein powders are when mixed with water,” commented another.

Negative User Reviews – “Uh Oh”

Another issue is negative user reviews. For example, one person reported, “Very chunky and grainy. Does not dissolve well. Also, it does not taste like the flavor on the container.”

However, a different user said, “A little on the expensive side. But, there are a bunch of flavors to choose from.”

Another mentioned, “Not bad. However, I experienced some IsoFlex side effects. Stomach discomfort and gas.”

The extensive research we’ve done has shown if there’s a specific part of a diet shake or protein supplement that’s quite burdensome (unpleasant taste, negative user reviews, side effects) the chances of long-term success are not very good. This means if IsoFlex protein powder does in fact taste bad to a lot of people, this could be problematic.

The Science – “Is It There?”

Well, we did not pinpoint any clinical studies pertaining to IsoFlex shakes. However, this supplement does contain a solid amount of protein to help stave off hunger and repair the muscles. Therefore it can potentially help with weight management and workouts. That is, if you can deal with the taste and texture of this formula.

The Bottom Line – Does IsoFlex Work?

Now the moment you’ve been waiting for. Here is our bottom line on IsoFlex protein powder. First off, we like that this supplement is available in numerous flavors. We also appreciate the high level of protein it provides. However, we have some reservations about this product because it is not backed by any clinical studies in regards to weight-loss. Also, we’re concerned about the less-than-savory taste that some users have mentioned.

If you’d really like to drop more weight, then we advise you to choose a product that contains clinically tested ingredients for weight-loss, does not have an unpleasant taste and is backed by all sorts of positive user reviews.

Among the best products we’ve seen in 2016 is one called Leptigen. Its formula is a proprietary blend of four powerful ingredients. Some of which have demonstrated in published clinical studies to help ignite fat loss and spark metabolism. Furthermore, we have not found any discouraging user remarks, and comments around the web indicate people are seeing real results.

The makers of Leptigen are so confident in their product they’re offering a Special Trial Offer, which is very encouraging.

How Does IsoFlex Compare?

Previous IsoFlex Review (Updated August 19, 2013):

What You Should Know

IsoFlex is a whey protein powder with quite an impressive amount of branched chain amino acids. Protein powders are ideal for meal replacement during weight loss, but only if there are added vitamins and nutrients to complete the nutritional profile of the powder. There is some vitamin A, vitamin C, iron and calcium in IsoFlex. The vitamin profile is not spectacular, but the powder contains 27 grams of protein for just 111 calories and 0.2 grams net carbohydrates. Will this powder help the dieter lose weight? It could, depending on how the protein powder is used.

List of Ingredients

[Whey Protein Isolate Complex [Whey Protein Isolate, WPI97 (Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate), Alpha-Lactalbumin-Rich Whey Peptides, Synermune™ Colostrum], NOS Complex [L-Arginine, Folic Acid, NAC], Glutamine Complex [Glutamine Peptides], LS Complex [Alpha Lipoic Acid, D-Pinitol, 4-Hydroxyisoleucine], Real Chocolate Chips, Natural And Artificial Flavor, Lactoferrin, Acesulfame-Potassium, Sucralose, Guar Gum.

Product Features

There is nothing spectacular in the ingredient list. There are sources of milk-based protein, antioxidants, B vitamins, glutamine and chocolate. The company uses sucralose Splenda) to replace sugar and reduce total calories. With 27 grams of protein per serving, the dieter gains a good protein source without packing in the calories. The caloric impact on the diet is low enough that the dieter could use IsoFlex as a snack between healthy meals. In terms of weight loss, protein is proven to reduce hunger between meals. In one study, men were given high-protein meals and asked to describe hunger between meals. The men were confessed snackers. According to the study, the snacking participants felt less hungry after eating lean protein. Eating protein to reduce appetite is a tricky choice. If the dieter eats too much protein, the body converts it into carbohydrates. This could cause glucose levels to rise, which could result in hunger. However, if IsoFlex is used as a snack between meals, the dieter should consume just enough protein and feel less hungry at meal time. IsoFlex is priced higher than other protein powders at $32 per 2-pound container.

Advantages

  • Protein may help reduce hunger.
  • Low calorie.
  • Low carbohydrate.
  • High protein.

Disadvantages

  • May not mix well in liquid.
  • Not all dieters like the taste of protein powder.
  • Dieters could consume too much protein.
  • Does not contain thermogenic ingredients.

Conclusion

The dieter that chooses a healthy, protein-rich 100 calorie shake instead of a sugary 100 calorie snack will likely feel less hungry between meals. Dieting and weight loss is all about balance and healthy food choices. IsoFlex is a bit expensive and the average dieter will have no use for the impressive branched chain amino acid profile, but they could feel less hungry, which is a great thing when trying to lose weight.

why will the average dieter have no use with the impressive BCAA profile? Is this safe to take for woman?

    [Reply]

    Stephen (Editor)

Due to BCAA’s protein and supposed muscle generating qualities it is included in many bodybuilding supplements. It is for this reason the average dieter wouldn’t find use in it, as they are likely trying to lose weight, not gain it in muscle. Yes, women may take it.
