The Jillian Michaels for Beginners workout includes two workout DVDs – Frontside and Backside. Each workout focuses on different muscles groups for a total body workout. This video is a bit more down to earth compared to other Jillian Michaels DVDs. Three helpers are on set with Michaels, all former contestants on the Biggest Loser. The set is clean and clutter free, something many consumers love about the workout. The movements are aimed at the beginner and tend to favor circuit style training verses typical workout DVDs.

Lately, it seems that everyone has heard the name Jillian Michaels. The personal trainer is known for her recurring role on the Biggest Loser, but she has been training for a number of years outside of the show. Michaels tends to be a no-holds-barred, intense personal trainer which may lead some beginners away from her workout DVDs. The Jillian Michaels for Beginners DVD set is different. This program focuses on the beginner with simple exercises in a circuit training style.

Frontside works muscles on the “front side” of the body, including chest, shoulders, quads and abdomen. The Backside works muscles on the “back side” of the body, including hamstrings and buttocks. Each workout runs less than one hour. There is no break in the workout, so the follower cannot choose to start out slow with a 10 or 15 minute workout and work up to the full workout over time. This is a huge negative as many beginners will not have the wind or strength to complete 43 minutes of continuous exercise.

The follower may be interested to know that props are used with the Jillian Michaels for Beginners DVD set. Weights, a chair and a step are required. This increases the total cost of the workout dramatically, as a step and weights can be expensive. There are no warm-ups, cool-downs or stretching portions during the workout. Followers need to warm-up, cool-down and stretch to prevent injury.

We did not find mention of a diet plan or diet suggestions with this DVD. The lack of stretching and warm-up / cool-down is a huge oversight, as these help prevent injuries. Dieters need to take their time and work up to the full DVD.
