The Kashi GoLean series of foods promotes living healthy with protein and fiber rich foods, but the ingredient list for some of the Kashi foods contain large amounts of simple carbohydrates or sugars. The meal replacement bars, for instance, contain about 200 calories with 31 grams of carbohydrates. Of the 31 grams of carbohydrates, 18 are from simple sugars alone. There are 5 grams of fiber and 12 grams of protein. There are also 4.5 grams of fat (containing 3.6 grams saturated fats). Saturated fats are unhealthy fats that may lead to increased risk of heart disease.
Kashi GoLean cereals are a bit healthier, with some varieties having 10 grams of sugar or fewer and no saturated fats, but ¾ cup of cereal accounts for 180 calories. Kashi GoLean hot morning cereals, are the best product sold by the company for weight loss. One packet contains 150 calories, 9 grams protein, 2 grams fat (no saturated fat) and 7 grams fiber. Some flavors have just 6 grams of sugar per serving.
Kashi GoLean products are sold in major grocery stores. Kashi GoLean is not a weight loss product, so dieters need to look carefully at the nutritional label before choosing a Kashi GoLean product. Most contain more than 150 calories per serving with small serving sizes. Eating a lean, egg-white omelet on a whole grain, low carbohydrate wrap accounts for fewer than 100 calories and packs a huge protein and fiber punch without added simple sugars.
