Kashi GOLEAN Shakes, which come in powdered and ready-to-drink form, are high in protein, fiber and a long list of vitamins and nutrients. Two flavors-chocolate and vanilla-are said to be good on their own or when combined with other elements. The website offers a plethora of recipes for GOLEAN shakes, a community forum, and full nutritional information on all Kashi products.

Ingredients

Chocolate-flavored Shake: Soy Protein Concentrate, Evaporated Cane Juice, Gum Acacia, Cocoa Treated With Alkali, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavor, Calcium Phosphate, Soy Lecithin, Carrageenan, Chicory Root Fiber, Magnesium Phosphate, Uva Ursi (Bearberry Extract), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Grape Seed Extract, Panax Ginseng, Niacinamide, Alpha Tocopherol Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Zinc Oxide, Vitamin A Palmitate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Thiamin Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Whey Caseinate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Molybdate, Vitamin K (Phytonadione), Sodium Selenite, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12

Product Features

Kashi GOLEAN Shakes do contain soy and milk ingredients, and for those using the Diabetic Exchange, a single serving contains 2 carbohydrate and 3 Very Lean Protein points. Recently Kashi issued a recall on GOLEAN Powder Chocolate Energy Shake Mix because of a labeling error, which omitted milk products. There is a full press release available on the website, in PDF format.

Comments left on the official website range from “Excellent” to “No Thanks”. The shakes do have 23g of sugar, however, if this shake is used as a meal replacement, rather than a snack, that number is less threatening. The sugar content comes from evaporated cane juice rather than refined sugar. These shakes do not contain any appetite suppressants, and are not intended specifically as a weight loss product. Using these shakes is meant to enhance and improve general health, with weight loss perhaps being a positive side effect, depending solely on the person using the product.

Kashi GOLEAN shakes are available at most major retailers (grocery/pharmacy), and also online through websites like Vitacost, and typically average between $10-15 per can. The website eStore is not encrypted, but is protected by McAfee Secure.

Advantages

  • Kashi GOLEAN shakes are vitamin rich.
  • You can get chocolate or vanilla and either pre-mixed or powdered.

Disadvantages

  • On many blogs, people have left negative feedback about these shakes.
  • Kashi GOLEAN shakes don’t contain a powerful thermogenic ingredient.
  • There are no free trials available on the official website.

Conclusion

Kashi is a company that specializes in all-natural foods so there is no doubt these shakes are good for you. The biggest problem we see is that even faithful Kashi customers don’t really seem to like them and have voiced that opinion in a few blogs. The taste may appeal to some people and if you’ve had success with meal replacement shakes in the past they may be worth a shot however.

I used to love love love the kashi vanilla shake powder. I actually used it as a meal replacement, and was very satisfied. But Trader Joes stopped carrying it, and I can’t seem to find it anywhere else. Very sad that it is out of stock. I tried replacing it with other shake powders, but none have made me happy in the same way.

I did a little research on uva ursi (an ingredient in the go lean shakes and it sounds like too much can create health problems. Is the amount in the shake serving more than the recommended amount?

Blended with milk (even lactose free milk) I find them quiet tasty and they can’t be beat for nutrition and ease and quickness of preparation. It is one of the best products I have seen to combine that much nutrition into so few calories which I believe is important when trying to lose or maintain weight. I only wish they were easier to get because I would really stock up.

You used to be able to buy it on the Kashi website by the case, but I tried tonight and it is not available anymore. I am looking for it too. I lost 60 lbs drinking this as a lunch time meal replacement a few years ago.
