What You Should Know
Pai You Guo is marketed online as a weight loss supplement that increases energy. There is no official website for the products which include Pai You Guo tea and capsules. As of November of 2009, products under the Pai You Guo name were being recalled in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration because the products contained ingredients that were not listed on the packaging or on websites that sold the products. One of the ingredients, phenolphthalein is not approved for use in the United States.
List of Ingredients
Green Tea Extract, Hoodia Gordonii, Malt, Chitin, Fiber, Apple Extract, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12, Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein.
Taking a look at the beginning of the ingredient list, Pai You Guo contains green tea. Green tea has been clinically proven to increase weight loss, which makes the ingredient a great one to include in any natural weight loss supplement. Hoodia Gordonii has been marketed as an effective appetite suppressant, but clinical trials failed to back up many of the online claims. Fiber is another common ingredient in weight loss supplements and is often used as a natural laxative and appetite suppressant. As an appetite suppressant, fiber is not the most effective available today.
The FDA tested Pai You Guo and found two ingredients in the formula that were not listed on the product packaging. The first ingredient was Sibutramine. Sibutramine is a prescription medication that is used in the United States as an appetite suppressant to treat obesity. The medication is not available without a prescription and its use in an alternative supplement is not approved. Heart failure, renal failure and stroke are side effects linked to Sibutramine use.
The second ingredient not listed on the Pai You Guo packaging is Phenolphthalein. This ingredient was once used as a natural, over the counter laxative, but it has since been removed from the supplement market because of carcinogenic effects on humans.
Pai You Guo is no longer sold online via United States based websites. Pai You Guo continues to be listed on various websites selling to US based consumers for prices between $6 and $16.
- Pai You Guo contains green tea, a proven weight loss ingredient.
- The price is lower than other weight loss supplements.
- The FDA found prescription medication Sibutramine in Pai You Guo.
- Phenolphthalein, another secret ingredient, is not approved for use in the United States.
- Some ingredients in Pai You Guo could cause death or cancer.
Losing weight is not worth heart failure, renal failure or death. Several ingredients found in Pai You Guo are not listed on the packaging and thus the Food and Drug Administration recalled all products sold to people in the United States as a result.
