Proform is the trade name for a meal replacement program produced by MG Nutritionals. The core component concentrates on dietary supplementation. The website states that incorporating Proform into the diet will ensure no compromise is made to vitamin and mineral intake. MG Nutritionals further recommends this practice as a source of calcium, for those in need of a gluten free diet and anyone working towards weight management. The target consumer seems to be elderly individuals who may lack the daily nutritional requirements. One section concentrates on those elderly patients in an institutional environment. “The prevalence of malnutrition reaches significant levels in elderly patients who are hospitalized.” This product appears to be offered only in pharmacies, but does not require a prescription. Proform promises support for those rehabilitating after hospitalization, anyone lacking in vitamins due to age, illness or dieting.

Ingredients

Skim milk powder, Mattodextrin, Corn Syrup, Full Cream Milk Powder, Whey Protein Concentrate, Disodium Hydrogen Phosphate, Pottassium Hydroxide, Soy Lecithin, Corn Oil, Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphate, Citric Acid, Minerals and vitamins. The ingredient listing warns Proform may contain trace amounts of fish oil and Milk & Milk products.

Vanilla and White Chocolate can be drank alone or added to other products, such as desserts or smoothies. All flavors come in1kg cans of powdered supplements or as premixed 60g sachets. Additionally, hospitals can purchase 6kg tubs of the Neutral powder for in service use. The website features a “Recipes” section that includes different ways to use Proform. The recipe guide offers muffins, scones, drinks, soups and meal preparation choices. Cans of powdered mix retail for $16.95, sachets market for $3.00 a piece.

  • The business website for MG states the processing plants that produce Proform are certified to the NSF HACCP and comply with specifications verified by the Australian Dairy Industry Reference Laboratory in Melbourne, Australia.

Disadvantages

  • Only available in Pharmacies.

Conclusion

Proform is a nutritional supplement used by clinical settings to enhance the dietary intake of patients. The company offers the product in three flavors neutral, vanilla and white chocolate. There is a wealth of reference material available on the Proform website regarding dieting and nutrition in relation to Proform use. One thing missing, however, is the caloric intake of this product. MG states, Proform makes a suitable meal replacement that will add nutrients and energy needed for weight management. Most dieters count calories. The fact that Proform does not include this information could be an oversight, but caloric intake is data most consumers would seek. The benefits of this product would depend on how you chose to use it. As a meal replacement formula, it may well help with weight loss. The ingredients include a comprehensive vitamin and nutrient supplementation. The fact that many hospitals give it to those recovering or dealing with illness is a favorable sign that it does offer benefits.

The Neutral Mix also indicate a high sugar level 40% is this derived from the corn syrup that is listed on the tin in the ingredients for the Vanilla flavour. I understand corn syrup is counter productive to correct weight control and promotes fat gain. Can anyone let me know otherwise. Thank you
