Solaray Thyroid is basically an iodine supplement that masquerades as a thyroid supplement. There are dieters who have trouble losing weight because of a thyroid condition. There are other dieters who find they suddenly gain tons of weight due to a thyroid conditions. While these conditions do exist, the average dieter does not stay overweight because their thyroid is not functioning properly. The only dieters this supplement will support are those that have a thyroid condition and it won’t even support all dieters with thyroid conditions because not all thyroid conditions are affected by iodine supplementation.

Solaray offers an official website with direct supplement ordering and contact information. We found it a bit confusing that there are two websites, one from the manufacturer and another dedicated to just Solaray listing the same product information. The Solaray website is hard to navigate and it does not work in some Internet browsers so dieters may find it easier to search an outside vitamin retailer for Solaray products.

List of Ingredients

Sodium.

Proprietary Blend: Kelp, Irish Moss, Eleuthero Root, Gentian Root, Fenugreek Seed and Cayenne Pepper.

Product Features

Kelp is a great source of iodine. This is the main ingredient in most thyroid support supplements available today. The product description for Solaray Thyroid claims kelp also contains potassium, calcium and iron. The description does not bother to list any benefits for the remaining ingredients.

Eleuthero root is another name for Siberian ginseng. This ingredient works to reduce inflammation and fight free radical damage. We found no link between eleuthero and thyroid conditions.

Gentian root is commonly used in Germany to stimulate appetite. This is the opposite effect the dieter is looking for when trying to lose weight.

Fenugreek may promote breast milk production and reduce inflammation. Reducing joint inflammation may help a dieter exercise more often if they have a history of joint problems.

Advantages

  • Solaray lists all ingredients for Thyroid on the official website.
  • Only one of the ingredients is proven to have any effect on thyroid.
  • May cause constipation because it contains iron.

Disadvantages

  • Very few dieters have a thyroid problem as the main cause of weight gain.
  • Should not be taken without medical advice if the dieter is taking thyroid medication.
  • Available on third-party websites for less than the official website.

Conclusion

Solaray offers so many supplements, they company is bound to offer a few that have no real benefit for the dieter. Solaray Thyroid claims to promote thyroid function, but the supplement only contains one ingredient that supports the thyroid. The remaining ingredients work as anti-inflammatories and appetite stimulants. Dieters wishing to lose weight, will not find the support they are looking for from this supplement.
