The Diabetes DTOUR Diet: The Revolutionary New Food Cure is a collaborative effort between the editors of Prevention Magazine, and Barbara Quinn, a dietitian and diabetes educator. The book is aimed at Type 2 diabetics, and people who otherwise have a hard time dealing with food cravings, extra pounds, and constant tiredness. As these are signs of an increased risk of diabetes, it can help these people too. The program is a six week long makeover. This book is intended to help people change their lifestyles so they can live healthy for the rest of their lives.

The basics of the plan involves eating foods that are high in: calcium, vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acids, and fiber. There is a six week long meal plan in the book that allows you to eat three full meals and two snacks every single day. Eating frequently helps to not only stabilize the blood sugar levels, but it will give the body a constant source of fuel so it revs the metabolism and keeps you from feeling hungry. Stable blood sugar levels will also help ward away cravings. You will also learn about the importance of portion control so you can eat only what you need and avoid excess calories and blood sugar spikes. Exercise programs are recommended, and the plan includes flexibility and adaptability so you can do only what you can handle. As you improve, you can do more, but you should always at least walk every day.

People who have type 2 diabetes or are at risk for it because of insulin resistance, can greatly benefit from the calorie and portion control presented in this plan. It does help with weight loss as losing weight can reduce the risk of diabetes, but it is not the primary focus of the plan. If you do not have diabetes or are not at risk, this plan may not be beneficial to you. If you use proven weight loss supplement with an appetite suppressant or fat burner, you may experience more results, faster than with diet and exercise alone.
