Az Ferguson and Krista Vernoff wrote The Game On! Diet: Kick Your Friend’s Butt While Shrinking Your Own. Vernoff had weight to lose after a pregnancy, and Ferguson, who won the Body for Life Challenge helped her by developing the program. This program uses competition through games and fun to help you stay motivated to lose weight and get healthy. The idea is you earn points for certain activities and making positive changes to your lifestyle, and try to beat your friends.

This program is a big game to play with friends and family members to see who can score the most points and win. Beyond weight loss, the program gives recognition to developing good habits such as drinking plenty of water and getting enough good quality sleep. Following this program enables dieters to lose weight and get healthy, without stressing out over the diet and lifestyle changes. Each “game” is four weeks long, and the person with the highest points at the end, wins. By the end of the program, everyone who played should be able to continue with their positive lifestyle changes. If you didn’t lose enough weight, start over! You earn points by: exercising at least 20 minutes a day, six days a week, sleeping at least seven hours a night, eating five smaller meals instead of three large ones, drinking three liters of water every day, dropping a bad habit, and keeping up with a good one. You can also earn points by staying in touch with team members to motivate them. You can lose points by: eating snacks, weighing yourself too much, getting another team member to cheat or to cheat with you, drinking alcohol unless its your “off day”, letting go of the good habit, or keeping a bad habit. The only snacks you can have are celery and cucumbers. You can have whatever you want on your cheat day, as long as the alcohol is not excessive.
