What You Should Know
Twinlab Energy Fuel is an energy supplement designed by a company often associated with athletics and sports nutrition. The product contains no calories, fat, carbohydrates or sugar – a great thing for the athlete who simply wants extra energy without all the baggage, but the formula is no different from other, smaller energy shots. Twinlab Energy Fuel comes in an 8.4 ounce can that’s four times the size of most energy shots, but the product is cheaper than many smaller supplements.
We quickly found the product and label online via the Twinlab website, but we did not find any reviews or testimonials. Twinlab uses less than 50 words to describe how the supplement works and deson’t bother to support any of the claims with clinical research.
List of Ingredients
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin B6
- Vitamin B12
- Pantothenic Acid
- Guarana Seed Extract
- American Ginseng Root Extract
- Eleutherococcus Senticosus Root Extract
- Green Tea Leaf Extract
- Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract
The first few ingredients on the list aren’t really that exciting. If you take a multivitamin in the morning, you are taking a source of these same supplements. It isn’t until we reach the guarana seed extract that things start to get interesting.
Guarana seed extract is a source of caffeine. In many supplements it is the only source of caffeine, but Twinlab Energy Fuel chooses to list both guarana and caffeine on the label. What does guarana offer the athlete – more caffeine. There’s nothing more to guarana than stimulation and the clinical studies performed on caffeine do support guarana, on a small level, but guarana is not as strong as straight caffeine.
Caffeine is added to boost energy, but it is also proven to boost metabolism. We expected this ingredient as it is commonly available and cheap, which is most important to many supplement companies. However, the athlete will find caffeine in other products so this ingredient doesn’t set Twinlab Energy Fuel apart from the rest.
Green tea is the final energy boosting ingredient. There is caffeine in green tea – again the use of caffeine to boost energy. That makes three sources of caffeine in one energy drink. We are not sure why companies use multiple sources of caffeine, but we know they all have the same effect on the body. When you pair up caffeine and green tea – you may notice a metabolism increase. Athletes already have a fast metabolism, in some cases and may not needed additional metabolism support.
- Twinlab lists Energy Fuel on the official company website.
- The list of ingredients is published in label form.
- Caffeine and green tea will boost energy and metabolism.
- Guarana is just a source of caffeine.
- May increase metabolism.
- Caffeine is known to cause a diuretic effect.
- Some users feel an energy crash after taking too much caffeine.
Twinlab Energy Fuel does what it says it will do – increase energy. This supplement is no better than any other energy product, but it does gain some points for not using garcinia cambogia or synephrine as a means of stimulation.
