Psyllium husk is a bulk-forming laxative. This means the fiber absorbs water and swells during digestion. This swelling causes digestion to slow down. The ball scrubs the sides of the intestine, removing waste along the way. When digestion slows, the dieter feels less hunger because the stomach takes longer to empty.
