Dr. Christiane Northrup, creator of the 1999 weight loss program Your Diet, Your Health, specializes in holistic medicine for women. She has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, the Today show, NBC Nightly News, Rachael Ray, The View, Good Morning America and PBS. The videocassettes and DVDs she created go on to detail a 10-step eating program that is meant to improve women’s health. Northrup has been praised as a pioneer in the women’s health field, treating the mind, body and spirit as one. She is also a board-certified OB/GYN who graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and who has practiced medicine on women for 25 years before shifting her focus to her various books, DVD’s and television programs.

Dr. Northrup is the author of two New York Times best-selling books including Your Diet, Your Health, and her third book made Amazon’s 2005 No. 1 book of the year. She has created six public television specials, and her most recent work focuses on menopause. Northrup is co-founder of the Maine-based Women to Women clinic, which claims it was the first clinic in the United States run by women, for women. The clinic and Your Diet, Your Health have received mixed reviews on the Internet by alleged patients who claim malpractice. One criticized her anti-dairy practices, and another claimed a disruptive pelvic exam and the failure to diagnose her mother’s advanced stage of colon cancer, but these are serious claims that we certainly can’t comment on further.

It’s pretty common wisdom, but here it is presented in a single, easy to reference volume, which could be what some weight loss consumers are looking for.
