Men’s supplements are considered a unique class of products. A supplement by definition must in ingested through the mouth. There is a wide variety of ingredients that can be in each supplement. As you age, your testosterone production diminishes, slowly but steadily. You may not notice any changes at first, but that gradual weight gain could be associated with dropping testosterone levels. Let’s take a look at what some of these include:

Vitamins

Vitamins are organic compounds. The body requires these organic compounds to promote growth and metabolism health. These are found as ‘letters,’ including Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and so forth.

Botanicals

Botanicals refer to things derived from plants. This can include things such as roots, seeds, bark, flowers, and any other part of a plant.

Minerals

Minerals are considered inorganic materials. These include things such as magnesium, and calcium. These are obtained through your diet because the body cannot make them.

Enzymes

Enzymes are needed to unlock particular chemical reactions within the human body. Functions such as digestion and cellular metabolism require enzymes.

Amino Acids

Amino acids are considered the building blocks of protein. Out of the hundreds of amino acids on the planet, only 20 reside in the human body. Out of those 20 amino acids, eight cannot be manufactured within the body. This means we have to obtain them through the food we consume.

Organ Tissues & Glandular

These are known to support functions in the body that are governed by the endocrine system. This includes things like energy creation and metabolism.

Metabolites, Constituents & Extracts

These include things such as omega 3 fatty acids, botanical extract, and metabolites. These can include things that are made within the body. These are known to be used to boost normal body function. You see these as an addition to sports supplements.

What are Men’s Supplements?

There are many types of supplements on the market. Some target men specifically. These men’s supplements should not be a replacement for the proper nutrition offered through food consumption.

Boron

Boron is typically used to protect the prostate in men.

Calcium

Another important addition in the men’s supplements market, calcium is used to help weight loss, and strengthen the bones.

Chromium

Chromium is sometimes known as a muscle-building supplement.

Coenzyme Q10

In the world of men’s supplements, coenzyme Q10 is used to boost energy levels. This enzyme is created in the body, so taking it helps to boost the body’s natural production.

Creatine

Creatine aids in boosting muscle and memory.

Glucosamine

It is suggested that glucosamine can improve joint health. Not only does it grease the joints, but it also helps to rebuild and repair them as well.

Omega-3s

Omega-3s can protect the heart. Omega-3 fatty acids help to keep the heart beating normally, and aid in keeping triglyceride levels low.

Vitamin E

Regarding men’s supplements, Vitamin E is one of the more important ones. This supplement is used to slow the effects of aging. Vitamin E is an antioxidant.

There are additional supplements that are often sought after, but heard of less commonly. These include:

  • Acetyl L-Carnitine
  • Korean Red Panax Ginseng
  • Fish Oil
  • Psyllium Husk

Are Men’s Supplements Safe?

Besides questionable nutrition, supplement safety is often overlooked. People forget that supplements are not regulated like other foods. Manufacturers of these supplements do not have to prove that they are safe, that they contain what they say, or that they work. Removal of the product, by the FDA, can only be accomplished after the product has been on the market, and proven to be unsafe.

In general, supplements for men pose very little threat. Supplements for men do however pose some adverse reactions when taken without being necessary. According to the journal Australian Prescriber, there are some adverse reactions connected to men’s supplements.

Supplements and supplements for men have an omnipresence. The complex nature of why so many people take them can confuse the supplement market. Rather than risk overexposure to certain vitamins or supplements, it is often urged by dietitians and experts that you try to gain what you lack in nutrition from your diet.

To Supplement or Not to Supplement

If the perfect world, we would all get the nutrition we need through our diet. However, this is not always the case. Many of us lack proper nutrition, especially since the rise of fast food. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, men aged 31 to 50 need to eat 350% more dark green vegetables and 150% more fruit per day to meet federal dietary guidelines. That, however, does not mean that we should start supplements. Since so many supplements are found to be useless, having zero benefits or adverse reactions to the body, many experts agree that we should tweak our diets, and consider a multivitamin.

At the current moment, there is very little evidence, and most of it is conflicting. By using a multivitamin, you ensure you are getting the proper levels of daily nutrients, in one place. You can feel confident that you are not overdoing it. Experts agree that a multivitamin is the safest approach to supplement usage, at least until further data is gathered.

The Best Men’s Supplement

Not all multivitamins are made for the same people. So, let’s take a look at how men can find the best multivitamin available for them.

  • Check the label, proper age and gender matter.
  • Get a multivitamin that offers 100% of the daily recommended intake.
  • Look for a vitamin that supplies all the key nutrients. These include: Vitamin A, B Vitamins ((thiamin, riboflavin, folic acid, pantothenic acid, niacin, B6, B12, D3, D2, Calcium), Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, and Potassium
  • Find the best form of multivitamin for you. Multivitamins come in different forms, pills, capsules, gummy form, powders, and liquids.
  • Please do not overdo it. Many people think more is better, however, regarding supplements, this is not the case. Stick to a single multivitamin, daily.

Supplements for men should not be taken lightly. Although they are easy to purchase, and over the counter, it does not mean they should be taken by all people. Experts recommend that people speak to their physician before taking any supplements.

Something to consider with supplements is that there are many different supplements available. Each supplement is made to address a different aspect of life.
