Evlution Nutrition is a company specializing in fitness supplements, including fat burners, such as Leanmode. The company claims that Leanmode is a stimulant-free, herbal weight loss supplement that supports fat loss, appetite control, metabolism, energy, and positive mood. The supplement contains several herbs such as Green Tea Extract and Green Coffee Bean Extract, which have been shown to be beneficial to weight loss, but is this combination of herbs effective?
Side-effects, such as restlessness and digestive issues have been reported for both Green Tea Extract and Coffee Bean Extract. Our research team wanted to look at all of the supplements by Evlution Nutrition to help consumers decide if they should buy these products. Here’s a look at their findings.

Evlution Nutrition Ingredients
Evlution Nutrition uses a large number of formulated ingredients in their supplements. While some of these ingredients are naturally-occurring, many are non-herbal. Supplements such as Leanmode are stimulant-free, while ENGN and Trans4orm both have a number of potent stimulants in their respective formulations.
Trans4orm and Leanmode are both gluten-free and lactose-free. All Evlution Nutrition products adhere to GMP (General Manufacturing Practices) guidelines, and their current calorie-containing products are FDA approved. Their calorie-free supplements are non-nutritional and thus not approved by the FDA.
Here is a closer look at some of the ingredients used in Evlution Nutrition products.
Scroll below for one of the best products we’ve seen over the last year.
Trans4form differs from Evlution Nutrition’s other fat-burner Leanmode in that Trans4form contains stimulants. Stimulants can greatly range in potency, from a cup of coffee to a powerful thermogenic blend. The way people tolerate stimulant blends such as Trans4form and ENGN varies greatly, so if you opt to try them, assess your tolerance carefully before taking large doses.
Here is a look at the ingredient list in Trans4orm, as well as a breakdown of key ingredients:
EGCG (Green Tea Leaf Extract) is possibly the most beneficial ingredient to one’s health in Trans4form, says Nutrients. It is a polyphenol and the primary active ingredient in green tea.
EGCG is also extremely heart-healthy. Intervention studies in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition using green tea containing 200-300 mg of EGCG have demonstrated its usefulness for maintaining cardiovascular and metabolic health. Additionally, there are numerous in vivo studies demonstrating that green tea and EGCG exert cardiovascular and metabolic benefits in these model systems.
Black Pepper Extract (Piperine)
Black Pepper Extract, also known as Piperine, is known to help potentiate the effects and improve absorption of other supplements, notably curcumin and turmeric.
One study determined that piperine has powerful antioxidant and anti-oxidative properties.
Black pepper is an important healthy food owing to its antioxidant, antimicrobial potential and gastro-protective modules. Black pepper, with piperine as an active ingredient, holds rich phytochemistry that also includes volatile oil, oleoresins, and alkaloids.
More recently, cell-culture studies and animal modeling predicted the role of black pepper against a number of maladies. The free-radical scavenging activity of black pepper and its active ingredients might be helpful in chemoprevention and controlling the progression of tumor growth, says the Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition.
Additionally, the key alkaloid components of Piper Nigrum, that is, piperine assist in cognitive brain functioning, boost nutrient absorption and improve gastrointestinal functionality.
In another study by the Indian Journal of Pharmacology conducted on mice, supplementing with piperine significantly reduced not only body weight, triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL, and fat mass, but also increased the HDL levels, with no change in food intake. HDL, High-Density Lipoprotein, is also known as the “good” cholesterol.
All of this is very encouraging in regard to piperine’s potential as a fat-loss and health supplement.
Choline Bitartrate is the salt form of choline. Choline is an essential nutrient similar to B vitamins, and adding tartaric acid to choline greatly improves the absorption rate compared to pure choline.
Systemic inflammation is the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines as an immune response within the body. Foods such as dairy and refined grains have been shown to produce an inflammatory response in people. Choline has been shown to reverse this inflammatory response in multiple studies (Current Opinion in Lipidology).
Active people and pregnant women may need supplemental choline in order to optimize neural and cognitive function.
Choline is well-tolerated in the body, and only has negative side effects following excessive supplementation. Suggested choline supplementation is 400-500 milligrams.
The widely accepted maximum tolerable upper intake level is 3.5 grams of choline per 24-hour period. Going beyond this amount could increase risk for toxicity, but would be difficult to reach this amount without aggressive or irresponsible supplementation.
After surpassing the 3.5-gram mark, one may notice a drop in your blood pressure. Getting to about 5 – 10 grams of choline a day may further lower your blood pressure and potentially cause feelings of lightheadedness or vertigo (dizziness). Higher doses of Choline (10 – 15 grams) have been clinically linked in research to unusual body odor, increased salivation, sweating, and vomiting.
Choline Bitartrate is included in both the Trans4orm and the ENGN formulations. The proprietary blend is 2,213 per serving in the ENGN Pre-Workout product. If serving recommendations are followed, users should be well within the safe range for choline.
Huperzia Serrata Extract
Huperzia Serrata has been used as a Chinese folk medicine for many years. It contains huperzine A, which has a protective effect against memory deficits in animal models.
Huperzia Serrata extract seems to improve cognitive function deficits by inhibiting AChE. Therefore, this extract may be valuable for the prevention or treatment of dementia in AD, says Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry.
Huperzine-A proves to be a relatively safe compound from studies of toxicity in animals and humans by showing no side effects at dosages routinely supplemented with.
In people without AD, Huperzia Serrata may improve memory and cognitive function.
L-Tyrosine is a naturally-occurring amino acid that can be found in meat such as beef or chicken. It plays a large role in the health of the immune system.
One study focused on the effectiveness of L-Tyrosine as a stress reliever.
The main effects of L-tyrosine that have been reported are acute effects in preventing a decline in cognitive function in response to physical stress. The physical stressors include those of interest to the military, such as cold stress, the combination of cold stress and high-altitude stress (i.e., mild hypoxia), extended wakefulness and lower body negative pressure stress (designed to simulate some of the effects of space flight).
Doses of L-tyrosine in these studies ranged up to 20 g, many times the normal daily dietary intake. In one study, L-tyrosine was given at a dosage of 2 g per day for 5 days during a demanding military combat training course; it improved various aspects of cognitive function relative to placebo.
It seems L-Tyrosine can help someone stay mentally-sharp as stress increases, according to the Journal of Psychiatry & Neuroscience. This could be useful while dieting and in helping to stick with an exercise program.
Trans4orm contains 200 mg of L-Tyrosine per dose. This is below the effective amount described in the study above, but one could easily obtain 2g of L-Tyrosine per day from natural protein sources.
ENGN is Evlution Nutrition’s main pre-workout supplement. It includes many of the ingredients commonly found in pre-workout powders, including beta-alanine, creatine monohydrate, niacin, and of course caffeine.
Pre-Workout products generally include a mix of vitamins and compounds meant to increase blood flow and circulation, allowing the user to work out longer and maximize nutrients in their bloodstream.
Here is a closer look at some of the ingredients in Evlution Nutrition ENGN.
Beta-alanine is an amino acid formed in vivo by the degradation of dihydrouracil and carnosine. Beta-alanine is the only naturally occurring beta-amino acid. It is a component of the naturally occurring peptides carnosine and anserine and also of pantothenic acid (Vitamin B-5) which itself is a component of coenzyme A.
Under normal conditions, beta-alanine is metabolized into acetic acid, according to PubChem.
Beta-alanine has shown promise as a sports supplement because it can delay fatigue during high-intensity training by creating additional carnosine within the body. Carnosine acts as a natural buffer of the body’s intercellular ph levels.
Carnosine production can offset the accumulation of lactic acid and waste products during training.
Studies indicate that beta-alanine does not have an immediate effect on concentric or isometric muscle strength, muscle gain, or fat loss. However, studies (Nutrition Research) indicate that over time beta-alanine to carnosine conversion becomes more efficient within the bodies of trained athletes.
Training volumes increased and athletes reported lower subjective feelings of fatigue after prolonged supplementation with beta-alanine. This indicated that as the duration of supplementation continued, the efficacy of beta-alanine supplementation in highly trained athletes became apparent.
Dicaffeine malate, also referred to as Infinergy, is an ionic bonded combination of caffeine and malic acid and is trademarked by Creative Compounds LLC. It is included in the ENGN Pre-Workout offered by Evl Nutrition.
Dicaffeine malate is purported to ease digestive distress commonly caused by natural caffeine and caffeine anhydrous. There are some reports claiming that malic acid also slows the crash associated with caffeine intake. However, there are no published studies substantiating this.
Dicaffeine malate has not been proven to be more or less harmful than natural caffeine or caffeine anhydrous.
Leucine is one of the three Branched Chain Amino Acids or BCAAs. BCAAs are frequently sold as exercise and fitness supplements. Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine, the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), make up about one-third of muscle protein. Although this product no longer contains leucine, it does contain other amino acid ingredients.
Of these, leucine has been the most thoroughly investigated because its oxidation rate is higher than that of isoleucine or valine.
The thought is that one should supplement with the three amino acids that synthesize most easily into muscle – Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine – in the interest of maximum protein synthesis and to promote anabolism, or the growth and reconstruction of lean muscle tissue.
Data shows that BCAA supplementation before and after exercise has beneficial effects for decreasing exercise-induced muscle damage and promoting muscle-protein synthesis.
Consuming BCAAs during resistance training has been proven to result in a greater decrease in percent body fat, an increase in lean mass, and 10-RM strength gains on the bench press and squat vs. ingestion of a whey supplement or a sports drink.
In addition, the ingestion of a whey protein supplement resulted in greater lean mass gains than ingestion of a sports drink.
The ingestion of BCAAs alone, without the concurrent ingestion of other EAAs, intact protein, or other macronutrients, increases the stimulation of mTORC1 activity and myofibrillar-MPS following exercise in resistance-trained young men.
Our data support the notion that BCAA ingestion alone does not maximally stimulate myofibrillar-MPS following exercise despite stimulation of translation initiation pathways. The lack of sufficient EAAs appears to limit the response of myofibrillar-MPS following exercise.
Thus, whereas our data clearly show that BCAA ingestion activates cell-signalling pathways that result in increased myofibrillar-MPS, ingestion of BCAAs alone may not be the optimal nutritional regimen to stimulate a maximal MPS response to resistance training.
The data indicate that BCAAs, and Leucine, in particular, drive muscle protein synthesis and promote anabolism, but are less effective than when combined with all Essential Amino Acids (EAAs).
A full spectrum of EAAs is likely necessary to stimulate maximal muscle protein synthesis in response to resistance training, according to Frontiers in Physiology.
In isolating Leucine from all other amino acids, findings were inconclusive. Early findings from Sports Medicine suggest that leucine supplementation has no effect on anaerobic running performance.
However, Leucine has shown a positive effect on sparing glycogen and lean muscle tissue during intensive exercise, particularly during periods of calorie restriction:
During 8 weeks of strength and speed training, leucine supplementation of 50 mg/kg of body weight per day, in addition to a daily protein intake of 1.26 g/kg of body weight per day, appeared to prevent the decrease in serum leucine levels in power-trained athletes.
According to one study (Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition), dietary supplementation of leucine (3g per day) to humans participating in intensive resistance training exercise results in an increased in fat-free mass (muscle) and an accompanying increase in strength.
Data suggests that Leucine, in combination with Isoleucine and Valine, has positive effects on body composition but not performance. Data on Leucine in isolation is still in relative infancy and is currently inconclusive.
Evlution Nutrition Facts
Evlution Nutrition is quite transparent with their supplement facts. Evlution produces their supplements in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) facility, meaning that they are subject to audits from NSF International, an independent organization that certifies products and creates standards for dietary supplements, food, water, and consumer goods in an effort to minimize health risks and protects the public and the environment.
The ingredient list, particularly in the proprietary blends of some of the products, is quite long. It becomes difficult to discern what is safe and what is unsafe, as well as effective versus ineffective ingredients.
Generally speaking, supplements with fewer ingredients are easier to research and stand behind scientifically.
Evlution Nutrition has no warning letters from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Evlution Nutrition Benefits
With the exception of their whey protein products, Evlution Nutrition bear “Supplement Facts” labels rather than the “Nutrition Facts” label more commonly seen on the packaging of food and drinks.
Here is the Nutrition Label from Evlution Nutrition’s Stacked Natural Whey Protein Powder:
Stacked Natural is a Whey-Casein Blend, meaning that it contains multiple types of protein. It is not 100% whey.
Both groups (whey-fed and casein-fed) experienced significant improvements in body composition, strength, and anaerobic performance when consuming either protein supplement pre- and post-exercise. However, no significant effects were observed between the two groups with changes in any other variable.
The data indicates that protein intake in or around the time of exercise is paramount, more so than over-considering the benefits of whey over casein or vice-versa.
Whey is more rapidly-digested and is thus sometimes preferred immediately before or after exercise.
The benefits of whey protein and BCAA supplementation are well-established.
There is no data establishing that Evlution Nutrition products are inherently better than comparable whey or BCAA products.
Notice the label from Evlution Nutrition’s Trans4orm product includes “Supplement Facts” and not “Nutrition Facts”.
There are positives and negatives to most of the additives included in the Trans4form formulation, but there are not FDA recommended amounts for most of the ingredients.
While the formula includes some vitamins, it does not contain calories. Trans4form and similar supplements would not be considered nutritional.
Evlution Nutrition Directions

A common side effect of fat burners and pre-workout formulas is their tendency to cause sleep inhibition.
This varies greatly from user to user, but some people are so sensitive to stimulant blends that they cannot take them after 12pm without the supplements causing difficulty falling asleep.
If you opt to use ENGN Pre-Workout or Trans4orm, we suggest that you take half of the recommended dosage and assess your tolerance carefully.
The Evlution Nutrition’s other fat burner, Leanmode, is reported to be all-natural and free of stimulants. More information on the principle ingredients of Leanmode can be found at the respective links:

What Users Are Saying
“Leanmode has changed my metabolism for the better – Wow, what a difference adding Leanmode to my routine has made to help control my appetite and just speed up my metabolism without any speedy side effect. I’ve lost weight and kept it off in a way no other nutrient has before. I love this stuff.”
“Not worth trying!!! – Just not a good product, the capsykes literally smell/taste like moth balls – i didn’t notice any difference be it in appetite or energy. If you’re looking for a good product try Cellucor Super HD, when i ran out of that i decided to try this and NOPE. Not even close.”
“Long lasting with no crash. I was skeptical when I bought it, but it hangs up there near the top of the preworkouts I’ve used. Good flavor, much better than a lot of the other brands. Would definitely recommend.”
The Bottom Line on Evlution Nutrition
Evlution Nutrition is a relatively-new company and is generally well-reviewed. However, Evlution Nutrition products have not been evaluated by the FDA, and this makes us skeptical about some of their claims. We’re also concerned about negative side effects, the lengthy warning labels, and ingredients not producing results.
