Neal Barnard M.D. is the creator of the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart diet. The idea is to change from eating meat and meat-based products to a vegan lifestyle in 21 days. During this time, weight loss may not be the primary focus as the dieter will need to learn the ins and outs of veganism. Unlike vegetarianism, veganism is strict, allowing no foods even related to meat products.

The official website for the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart plan allows dieters to sign up for email tips and tricks from Neal Barnard M.D. There is a dedicated meal plan, mobile phone application and contact information on the main website as well. New vegans can read through a restaurant guide to help them choose all the right foods when out of the home.

Becoming a vegan is a lifestyle choice, but it is not necessarily a weight loss choice. Olive oil is vegan friendly, but when the oil is eaten in large amounts, it will cause weight gain.
