The Total Gym Xli is one of the top models in the Total Gym line of fitness equipment. The product features upgrades not seen on the standard model, including multiple instructional DVD’s, squat stand and Pilates kit. The Total Gym Xli guarantees a full body workout through the use of the innovative pulley system which uses body weight as resistance instead of free weights. Guarantees are great, but can the Total Gym Xli live up to the hype?

List of Ingredients

Pilates-style home gym featuring instructional DVD’s and multiple accessories.

Product Features

The Total Gym Xli is a Pilates-style home gym featuring upgrades of the basic model including, squat stand, pull-up bar, wing attachments and Pilates kit. Additional accessories include exercise charts and instructional DVD’s. The Total Gym Xli is not available on the official website or is it available in the United States.

The Total Gym Xli increased the maximum weight capacity from 250 lbs. to 400 lbs. This factor alone includes more of the population looking to lose weight without the need of free weights. The lack of free weights means the resistance generated comes from the user’s body weight. The resistance levels range from 4% to 60% of the user’s body weight.

The space saving design of the Total Gym Xli allows for easy storage. The Total Gym Xli measures 51 inches long and 9 inches tall when folded. Unfolded, the Total Gym Xli takes up a mere 7 feet, with a height of just under 4 feet.

The cost conscience dieter will not find the price of the Total Gym Xli settling. With a price tag of $1000, the Total Gym Xli does not offer the greatest value for the money. For that price, a dieter could join a health club for more than two years. Added to the cost is the international shipping, due to the product only being available in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Conclusion

We like the upgraded Total Gym Xli. Compared to the original model, the Total Gym Xli offers multiple instructional DVD’s, squat stand and several accessories. The increased weight capacity allows users up to 400 lbs. access to the Total Gym Xli. This is great for a wider range of individuals.

What we did find is all of the accessories are not conducive to individuals of all sizes. The included squat rack does not adjust, making exercises difficult for tall individuals. We also found the Total Gym Xli does not include a diet guide. To maximize weight loss a dieter must include exercise, supplements and nutrition into their healthy regimen. Unfortunately, the Total Gym Xli only includes one of the three factors.
