Perfect Carb Review
What You Should Know
What makes up the perfect carbohydrate? According to LG Sciences, Perfect Carb answers that question. The powdered mix is supposed to be used in conjunction with other bodybuilding supplements and powders to improve muscle growth and decrease recovery time between workouts. Carbohydrates transport protein to muscles so there is so science behind the use of carb powders after a workout, but is this product really a “perfect” carb.
List of Ingredients
Waxy Maize Starch, Maltodextrin, Laboratory Grade Dextrose.
The only ingredients in Perfect Carb are waxy starch and sugar. There has been a debate over the use of waxy maize starch for quite some time. One bodybuilding website, studied waxy maize starch and even went so far as to contact the National Starch and Chemical Company to find out more about this commonly used bodybuilding ingredient. After a long stint of research and reading, it was revealed that waxy maize starch is one of the least effective ingredients for restoring or increasing carbohydrates (sugars) in the body. Simpler carbohydrates like dextrose are digested and absorbed with much greater efficiency, which could be why dextrose is used in this supplement.
On the dieting side of the debate, Perfect Carb is not a product any dieter should attempt to try. The powder is pure carbohydrates and packed with tons of calories and sugars. Carbohydrates are often used post-workout to feed the muscle. When a bodybuilder lifts, the glycogen and glucose stores are wasted. After the workout, Perfect Carb or another comparable product would be mixed with an easily digested protein and taken to refeed the muscles to start the recovery process.
If all of this seems like Latin, it is probably because bodybuilders live with a different set of rules than dieters. Dieters try to control carbohydrate intake while bodybuilders must supplement with near pure carbohydrates to keep their muscles growing. Any products that claim to help “feed” muscles are likely to be high in calories and carbohydrates.
Perfect Carb sells for as little as $12.99 per 2.27 lb container.
- Carbohydrates help feed the muscle.
- Waxy maize starch does not digest as quickly or easily as other simple carb powders.
- The shake is high calorie.
- Dieters should not use the Perfect Carb supplement during weight loss.
- Not appropriate for use by diabetics.
Waxy maize starch carries a bit of a myth with it. Some supplement manufacturers claim this waxy starch is easier to digest than other carbohydrates, but research proves this is not correct. Dextrose, for instance, digests more quickly than waxy maize starch. Bodybuilders may want to look into other carbohydrate sources for the best fit for their muscles. Dieters, on the other hand, should not use this product at all if they want to continue losing weight.
