What You Should Know
There are hundreds of weight loss products on the market today claiming that Hoodia is the “magic bullet” for weight loss and Hoodia Bites are no different. Hoodia Bites are chocolate flavored chews that claim to work to suppress appetite in only five minutes. Hoodia itself remains a controversial ingredient. Hoodia is a native succulent plant from southern Africa that has been used for centuries by tribesmen on long desert journeys to combat hunger. The active ingredient in Hoodia, P57, has been isolated and now appears in many diet supplements. However, despite all the hype, there has never been a clinical study reported in a peer-reviewed journal supporting hoodia’s effectiveness.
Hoodia Bites cites a small study conducted by a Dr. Goldfarb on seven patients which suggested the ingredient was effective at assisting in weight loss. However, this study was never officially written up. There is an ongoing problem with hoodia products not actually containing hoodia. Independent labs have found that more than half of the hoodia products on the market today contain no hoodia. These labs are now independently certifying hoodia products and Hoodia Bites does have this certification, meaning that it does contain hoodia.
List of Ingredients

Hoodia Bites is designed to stop snack cravings in their tracks. The chew format is convenient for those on the go during the day who do not have access to water with which to take a pill. The instructions recommend chewing two pieces a day to curb cravings and hunger. The Hoodia Bites website claims that it is the only form of hoodia clinically proven to work in five minutes however the company does not provide any details of this clinical proof.
There is very little other information provided on the Hoodia Bites website. We were unable to locate any customer testimonials supporting the effectiveness of the product. With a product that claims such dramatic results, one would think that some customers would be gushing over the product, but that does not appear to be the case with Hoodia Bites.
- The product comes in a convenient chewable form.
- Hoodia Bites are available directly from the manufacturer’s website.
- Hoodia is not clinically-proven to assist in weight loss in humans.
- No product samples or trial sizes are available at this time.
- No links to clinical research on the product are provided.
- Hoodia Bites are expensive compared to similar products at $80 per one month supply.
Although hoodia is all the rage in the diet product market, we (and most medical professionals) remain unconvinced of its ability to help with weight loss. Until there are proper clinical trials supporting its effectiveness, hoodia remains a fleeting hope for those wishing to lose weight. Fortunately, there are products on the market that contain clinically-proven weight loss ingredients. Consumers may wish to overlook the hoodia hysteria and seek out a more sensible option.
