Keyto Review - 11 Things You Need to Know

One of the hardest parts of maintaining a ketogenic diet is knowing when you are in a state of ketosis. A new product, called Keyto, promises to take the guesswork out of low-carb diets. It analyzes chemical markers in your breath to determine how much fat you are burning.

Our research team was intrigued. Are there clinical trials to back up the makers’ claims, or is it a scam? We took a look at the evidence to determine the pros and cons and uncovered everything you need to know about Keyto and weight loss.

Keyto can be purchased through their Official Site.

Overview

What is Keyto?

Keyto is a smart breathalyzer that measures the acetone in your breath. Your body produces ketone bodies when it enters a state of ketosis. Acetone is one of those ketone bodies. Bad breath is common on low-carb diets. It’s because of the acetone.

The breathalyzer, which resembles an electronic cigarette, connects to a smartphone app that tells you how far into ketosis you are. Your breath will give off a higher score when you have more acetone present in your breath.

Keyto Levels

  • Level 1 – Not in ketosis
  • Level 2 – Starting Ketosis
  • Level 3-5 – Increased fat-burning potential
  • Level 6 – High-fat burning potential
  • Levels 7-9 – Extreme fat-burning potential
  • Level 10 – Deepest level of ketosis

The Keyto app does more than track ketosis. If you want to eat an avocado, the app will tell you how many carbs it contains. The app has tools to track your progress and help with meal planning. There is also a supportive online community to keep you motivated.

The breathalyzer also has a KetoBox that contains several selected keto-friendly snacks. It is included with the Key Eats Premium plan.

How Did Keyto Start?

Keyto was incorporated in 2014 by Dr. Ethan Weiss, Dr. Ray Wu, Liane Nakamura, and Gareth Everard. An Indiegogo campaign has raised $1,128,467 to date. A minimal number of pre-orders were shipped in January 2019. More orders are expected to ship in May 2019.

An additional 14,000 orders were shipped in July 2019.

Claims

The makers of Keyto make multiple claims regarding this ketogenic lifestyle product.

  • Backed by science
  • Easy to use
  • Accurate
  • Intuitive
  • Reliable
Ingredients

Keyto Ingredients

The system consists of a lightweight breathalyzer and an app that tracks your progress.

The ingredients in the KetoBox snacks will depend on the selection chosen. However, all snacks claim to be keto-friendly.

Does Keyto Work?

The makers claim this product is backed by more than a decade of science. Our research team was hoping they would make their studies public. Unfortunately, they didn’t.

We did find one study that shows it could work. The study, published in the American Journal of Nutrition,  concluded that measuring breath acetone is an effective way to determine if a person is in a state of ketosis.

Keyto Benefits and Results

A limited number of breathalyzers were released to the public in early 2019. Our research team couldn’t find any reviews online, but there was plenty of buzz about Keyto in keto-focused diet groups. Some dieters were excited. They liked the idea of knowing exactly when they entered a state of ketosis. Others were turned off by the price, especially considering ketone urine strips are just as effective and cost a fraction of the breathalyzer amount.

Details on Keyto and Weight Loss

Will Keyto help you lose weight? It can. Research available on the keto diet is limited; there is a potential for weight loss.

One long-term study, published in the Journal of Clinical Cardiology, found a ketogenic diet can reduce body weight, decrease triglyceride levels, lower LDL cholesterol, and reduce blood glucose levels.

The keto diet is difficult to maintain. If Keyto simplifies the process, more people might turn to the low-carb trend.

How to Use Keyto

The system is easy to use. Just breathe into your breathalyzer, and check your score on your smartphone.

Side Effects

Potential Keyto Side Effects

There are no side effects associated with Keyto. There are, however, side effects associated with a keto diet.

The most commonly reported keto side effect is carb flu. The symptoms of carb flu include:

  • Sugar cravings
  • Muscle soreness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Cramps
  • Weakness
  • Mood swings
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Headaches

A low-carb diet can also result in increased cholesterol in some followers. Kidneys must process the extra protein, so men and women with kidney problems must talk with their physician before cutting out carbs.

Dr. Anthony Dugarte reminds dieters to seek advice before starting any low-carb diet. “Discuss desires to make any large changes to a meal plan with a physician.”

Bottom Line

What Users Are Saying

“Keyto for keto diet – Loving this device. Bought in February and rigorously using daily.”

“Gadget doesn’t even sync to my Android phone…that says it all! – It just doesn’t work! I’m not even talking does it measure ketosis accurately cuz I never got that far… It did not sync up with my Google Pixel phone. Sadly this is the only review I can make of it is that it was a complete failure. Well I can also add that after I contacted them… There is no phone number you can’t call and talk to someone… I got an email back saying okay send it back. But they wouldn’t pay for the shipping which okay it was under $10 but why should I have to pay to send back an item that never worked! I finally got my money back but not before they decided they would sign me up for the premium monthly membership even after I said “hey this thing doesn’t work”. As of this point everything has been refunded however except for the $8 priority shipping back to them. Only eight bucks but that in the fact that the item just doesn’t work technically is enough for me to warn others to stay away!”

“After a week off of keto, and on a super carb binge and fresh oranges, I was a 4; however, on urine stick I was zero. I’ve never actually been under a 4 or over a 6 with this unit so I really must question the accuracy of this device. I will say that it certainly makes you feel some type of way to believe that you are in a high burning ketosis level.”
