Overview

What is Usana Nutrimeal?

USANA Nutrimeal shake is a meal-replacement that caters to everyone’s healthy diet in this fast-paced world. It acknowledges the time limitation everyone has in their busy schedules and eliminate making unhealthy and greasy foods the only option.

USANA Nutrimeal is a low-glycemic drink that allows blood sugar to increase steadily rather than rapidly, making a person feel filled and content for an extended period. It is also non-genetically modified and gluten-free, which is an optimal choice for people who aim to lose weight pounds. But, can meal replacements actually help with weight loss?

  • Public Health Nutrition – Meal replacements shakes can support weight loss when used as part of a very-low-energy diet.
  • BMJ Open DRC – Even in some of the most difficult of cases, meal replacement protocols could help with obesity and risk factors associated with obesity.
  • Behavior Science – The trouble is often that healthcare providers aren’t educated enough on the benefits of meal replacements so they don’t suggest or prescribe them to their patients.

Claims

USANA Nutrimeal Claims

USANA claims that their Nutrimeal shakes are the best meal-replacements shakes in the market for three reasons.

Initially, Nutrimeal is non-GMO, which makes it a more natural product than an altered one.

This claim is valid based on the fact that GMO products have new genes added to their existing genes to give the initial genes some desired characteristics.

Products that have genetically modified organisms have numerous adverse health factors that USANA Nutrimeal do not have.

Secondly, USANA Nutrimeal is gluten-free. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, which can cause many allergic reactions.

USANA Nutrimeal claims

Lastly, meal replacement shakes by USANA are low-glycemic, which means it has a low glycemic index. Glycemic index is a value given to food products according to how quickly or slowly they increase your blood sugar levels.

By having a low-glycemic Nutrimeal, the sugar released into the blood is slow and steady, which helps lose weight. Low-glycemic foods help keep the heart-healthy.

Ingredients

USANA Nutrimeal Ingredients

USANA Nutrimeal shakes come in various different flavors including Strawberry, Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, as well as Pumpkin Spice and Creamy Caramel flavors for a limited time.  The Nutrimeal meal replacement shake can be procured either in a 9 Serving Bag or Single-Serving Packets. There are also other variants available on their website, the Nutrimeal Active with 20g of whey protein and the Nutrimeal Free Active with 20g of plant protein.

The ingredients in each flavor are the same except for those that are added to give flavor to the Nutrimeal. The two signature ingredients of the USANA Nutrimeal shake are:

Soy Protein Isolate

Soy protein isolate is derived from a plant and is a high-protein supplement that comes in powdered form, according to the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. It is sometimes publicized for the edge it provides muscle growth and body compositions.

According to Nutrientssoy protein is a common option for vegetarians, though now it is used in lots of foods. The International Journal of Medical Sciences notes that soy protein may help reduce body weight, though more research is needed.

On a downside, to make soy protein, soy needs to go through extensive processing, which is unhealthy to consume. Additionally, Nutrients notes that this kind of protein may have some negative side effects.

USANA Nutrimeal ingredients

Crystalline Fructose

Crystalline Fructose is used to sweeten foods, per the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Fructose is an alternative to glucose, but your body metabolizes crystalline fructose very differently than sugar.

Fructose plays an integral part in problems like obesity, and the depletion of vitamins and minerals in the body. This is why it is not recommended in excess amounts, according to Diabetes Care

Besides these major ingredients, USANA Nutrimeal also includes whey protein isolate, potassium phosphate, prune powder, calcium carbonate, maltodextrin, and many more.

Does It Work?

Does USANA Nutrimeal Work?

One of the most significant drawbacks of USANA Nutrimeal is that there is no reliable research available to back the manufacturer’s claims. USANA sells the full nutritional package and claims that it will help with weight loss.

There are no apparent benefits of using it because the company invests most of its time convincing consumers that the best way to lose weight is through prepackaged meals.

Since there is no substantial research, the product’s viability is only comparable by the ingredients in the product against the claims USANA makes for Nutrimeal.

Although there are mixed reviews of customers on this product, it is easy to conclude that USANA Nutrimeal is more of a meal-replacement product than a weight loss product. The main concern is the low quality of protein used, and the excess amount of sugar content Nutrimeal contains.

Protein Content

Protein Content in USANA Nutrimeal

The protein in USANA Nutrimeal comes from soy, whey, and pea. One shake supplies 15g of protein, which is about what you’d expect from a mainstream meal replacement.

Research into soy protein published in the journal Nutrition shows that high soy protein diets prevent exercise-induced protein degradation in skeletal muscle.

Cons and Drawbacks

USANA Nutrimeal Cons and Drawbacks

The biggest drawback, from customer product review websites, is its taste. Most of the customers that have used the product have commented about its terrible taste.

In addition to the bad flavor, USANA Nutrimeal falls on the overpriced side compared to other similar products on the market. The largest bag costs about $35.15, which contains a total of 9-10 servings.

The California government also contacted the company because the amount of lead in the formula was enough to require a Prop 65 warning on the label. Usana was in violation as of 2016 and has since corrected the issue.

“Tastes good. I use it as a meal replacement when I want something lighter or quick.”

“I’ve been drinking Usana meal replacement on and off for the past decade. The flavor is great, but it’s definitely a bit more expensive than other options out there.”

“This meal replacement shake is so good! It does slightly have that chalky texture most protein drinks have, but it’s not as bad. It is very filling and it also tastes way better than most protein drinks!”

Bottom Line

The Bottom Line on Usana Nutrimeal

So, should you run out and buy USANA Nutrimeal? Well, we like that USANA Nutrimeal is easy to find online and we appreciate the customer testimonials we found, however, we can’t ignore that it’s not backed by any science. Also, we’re concerned about this product’s high price and less-than-savory taste.

If you’d like to get rid of more pounds of fat, we suggest you go with a product that is backed by solid scientific research, has plenty of user support and comes with great customer service.

I bought the USANA Nutrimeal vanilla flavor. It was good at first but then I was doing the prescribed diet which was to drink only this product and eat fruits and vegetables but everyday I didn’t have energy and felt malnourished since it didn’t contain the complete nutrients it claims to have. It’s really not a product to make you lose weight and it doesn’t do so much as being a meal replacement either. My hunger just increase whenever I drink it and it became harder to regulate my food intake. I would prefer apple cider if you’re on a diet plus it’s cheaper.

Nutrimeal made me lose 30lbs gradually (from 150lbs to 120lbs), and I’ve kept off the weight for almost 4 years now. We drink it for breakfast. My son loves the Dutch Chocolate, my daughter loves the French Vanilla mixed with a tsp of matcha powder, and I love the French vanilla using black rice coffee as the base.

And it helped a lot when my kids had braces because they’d bring it to school for lunch (during first day of painful adjustments). And also when my mom got sick and couldn’t keep anything down, we just gave her Nutrimeal.

Life has been so much better with it.

Over the past 17 years as a Nutritionist, I have used real food, exercise plus a variety of different meal replacements, one of which is USANA Nutrimeal and the RESET program. Thousands of people have had positive results and it’s been instrumental with their improved health, weight loss and blood work. I would recommend reviewing ethical sites from reputable professionals that have nothing to sell. Then make your choice with a bit of common sense involved and before starting anything, seek the advice from a professional. You’ll save hundreds of dollars and get faster results. Good Luck

The taste is some good only in strawberries and chocolate flavor. In vanilla is not good. This product is so very expensibe and you cannot see results because it has soya and sugar. The worst part the product says gluten free and it is not true.In Mexico and Colombia only rich costumers can buy this product because the price is more than in the US. Also the soya is not organic they use Monsanto product and they did not specified in the ingredients. My costumers bought this product one time but they dont do this more because the feel equal.

19 grams of sugar in one serving? Overpriced AND unhealthy. And in the reset program you take 3 shakes and the bars which averages around 80 grams of sugar a day! I would get so fat and bloated that way. A junky shake with a slew of cheap ingredients and fillers. Check out biotrust protein instead, or any good quality 0 sugar whey at the health food store, not this garbage.

Agree its sugar content is not healthy for someone who is sugar free – i just dont know why these MLM companies claiming to have healthier products shove this amount of sugar content in their products – makes it unhealthy – pays to read the labels
