Why are people talking about Flat Tummy Tea? We decided to find out so we dug through the ingredients, side effects, and clinical research. We also read hundreds of experiences to learn how it works in real life. Then, we narrowed and summarized to give you the bottom line.

Flat Tummy Tea Readers: Click here to find out why we're giving away samples of our product, Dietspotlight Burn.

What is Flat Tummy Tea?

Firstly, Flat Tummy Tea is a drink kit, designed for detoxification, consisting of Activate and Cleanse. The ingredients are senna, taraxacum, [1] galium aparine, camellia sinensis, cardamom, glycyrrhiza glabra, mentha × piperita, carum carvi, melissa officinalis, foeniculum vulgare, senna, glycyrrhiza glabra and rheum rhabarbarum. You’ll drink one glass in the morning and another in the evening. Supposedly, it’ll increase energy expenditure so the body uses more calories, thus reducing weight. Claims also say it can reduce bloating. [2]

Synergy CHC is the company behind Flat Tummy Tea. The brand was first introduced in 2013. You can buy a two or four-week pack directly from the official website. We like that it contains a few natural ingredients and that it seems affordable, but read on…

Side Effects – “A Potential Issue?”

The first issue we found with Flat Tummy Tea ingredients was the potential for side effects. Some of these reports may deal with the interaction of the natural diuretic dandelion and other supplements or prescription medications. “Unfortunately, products like this are all too often associated with adverse reactions,” says our Research Editor. [3]

One stated, “This one left me constipated. I thought it was supposed to help with that.”

“This tea is terrible, I tried it, and it’s tastes terrible and all it does is give you gas and make you go to the bathroom,” said another.

Not all customers experienced negative side effects. “Helped with bloating. Exercising keeps the weight off and eating healthy,” stated a user.

“Started on my day off just in case we had a bathroom issue. No bathroom issues with tummy tea,” commented another.

Lack of Results With Flat Tummy Tea – “Concerning?”

Based on customer reviews, Flat Tummy Tea results are not exactly what the consumer expected. “Reduced the bloat, but didn’t lose any weight,” commented a customer.

“Those posts online aren’t real. I didn’t lose weight like they did,” commented a customer who saw no Flat Tummy Tea results. [4]

Although there aren’t a lot of Flat Tummy Tea reviews posted, we did locate some customers that have tried the product and saw results. [5]

“Girls do see weight loss results if they pair our tea with a healthy diet and some exercise,” commented a customer.

Through years of research, we’ve found a connection between what seems small, like missing reviews, and a lesser chance of long-term success. If Flat Tummy Tea is not honest about results and experiences, why would the consumer trust the company or the product?

The Science – “Clinical Evidence?”

The science side of Flat Tummy Tea is easy. Green tea extract is proven to help with weight-loss, [6] but you can buy that for less than $5 in your local vitamin shop. Other ingredients in the formula are geared toward reducing water [7] and increasing bowel movements. These are not effective means of helping you lose. According to the Journal of American College Health, “Serious medical problems that may occur with laxative abuse include electrolyte and fluid imbalance, structural and functional colonic changes, and allergic reactions.”

The Bottom Line – Does Flat Tummy Tea Work?

Are we brewing up a cup right now? Well, we like the addition of green tea, but that’s not enough to curb our hesitations. We are uncomfortable giving this one our recommendation because there’s no proof it works better than supplements that contain clinically proven ingredients. Plus, using laxatives and diuretics for weight-loss can lead to side effects, based on customer reviews and some scientific research.

If you want to lose weight the natural, safe way, we suggest going with a supplement that’s made with clinically tested ingredients that don’t cause potentially harmful side effects.

Among the best products we’ve seen this year is one called Dietspotlight Burn. This one contains four ingredients. All clinically-tested with results showing they can help to improve metabolism, suppress hunger and increase fat loss. We’ve read tons of user testimonials explaining some pretty fantastic results.

Plus, they’re so confident that you’ll love the supplement that they’re offering a Special Trial Offer, which is a good sign.

The Flat Tummy Tea program consists of Activate, Cleanse and Maintain. None are particularly strong, in terms of weight-loss. There is one ingredient with some clinical backing, but the official website doesn't bother to share any support. The use of laxatives and diuretics could prove to be an issue, especially for those taking prescription medications.

Taraxacum Leaf and Root

Commonly known as dandelion plant, taraxacum leaf and root are used in a number of internal cleansing supplements and herbal tea products. This herb is also found in some traditional medicines to treat upset stomach and gas.

What is it Supposed to Do?

Taraxacum is often used in cleansing and weight-loss products to increase urination. This plant contains some chemicals that boost urine production. This in turn may help with flushing out the kidneys and reducing excess water weight.

Clinical Research

There does not appear to be a solid link between taraxacum and fat loss. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine showed that “For the entire population (n = 17) there was a significant (p < 0.05) increase in the frequency of urination in the 5-hour period after the first dose.” [1] But, since this herb is a diuretic, it can lead to dehydration.

Senna Leaf and Pods

Senna is an herb that has been used for many years to treat constipation. Both the fruit and leaves of this plant are used to make some traditional medicine. Like many herbs, this ingredient is found in a number of diet pills and weight-loss teas.

What is it Supposed to Do?

The key component found in senna leaves and pods is sennosides. These chemicals basically irritate the lining of the intestines. This in turn causes a laxative effect. Therefore, this herb may help with internal cleansing, regularity and even reduce bloating.

Clinical Research

According to WebMD, “Taking senna by mouth is effective for short-term treatment of constipation. Senna is an FDA-approved nonprescription drug for adults and children ages 2 years and older.” However, this herb has not been proven to aid with weight-loss.

Galium Aparine

Sometimes referred to as cleavers, scarthgrass or bedstraw, galium aparine is an herb that contains chemicals called tannins. It has been used for centuries to treat conditions such as painful urination and fluid retention.

What is it Supposed to Do?

Some herbal cleansing teas and weight-loss supplements contain galium aparine to help promote urine flow and reduce retained water weight. It may also help with irritable bowel syndrome and flushing out the lymphatic system.

Clinical Research

Unfortunately we did not find a correlation between galium aparine and weight reduction. However, Cleavers have been “used to relieve edema and to promote urine formation during bladder infections,” according to the University of Michigan. [2]

There are several ingredients out there with clinical backing. The trouble is many companies fail to put more than one in a supplement at a time. Dietspotlight Burn offers four in one formula.

Flat Tummy Tea Side Effects:

Choosing a natural weight-loss supplement seems like it would come without side effects. However, even natural formulas may cause a negative reaction in some users. Even though Flat Tummy Tea side effects are rare, some users still experience them.

Bloating is a feeling of gassiness and stomach discomfort. It may become severe and cause distension or swelling of the abdomen.

What causes bloating?

The main cause of bloating is overeating or what you eat. It may also be caused by eating too fast or eating rich and fatty foods. Fat doesn’t digest as fast as carbohydrates or proteins, which means it makes you feel full longer. [1]

Feeling unbalanced or lightheaded means you may be dizzy. It may even make you feel like you’re going to faint.

What causes dizziness?

While dizziness may be caused by a number of different things, the most common causes include:

  • Migraines
  • Medications
  • Alcohol or drugs
  • Inner ear problems
  • Vertigo

Headaches are rather self-explanatory, but they come in a variety of types. Any continuous pain felt in your head may be described as a headache.

What causes headaches?

Headaches can be caused by a number of different factors. Most commonly, a headache anxiety, noise, hormones changes, sensitivity to food or even exercise.

When a bowel movement produces a loose, liquid discharge, it’s known as diarrhea. It’s actually stool that hasn’t remained in your system long enough for the colon to absorb the liquid portion. It will come out of your system very quickly and may cause multiple bowel movements in a very short time.

What causes diarrhea?

Most commonly, diarrhea will clear up on its’ own. [2] However, it may be caused by an inflamed bowel or a bacterial or viral infection. Diarrhea can also be a reaction to something you ate or a stressful event.

Flat Tummy Tea is not guaranteed to cause side effects. While bloating, dizziness, headaches, blood in stool and diarrhea have all been reported, along with others, not all users will experience problems. It’s always a good idea to speak with your physician before taking any supplement, especially if you’re under the age of 18, on prescription drugs currently, pregnant, nursing or have any type of medical condition.

Some of these side effects are associated with teas like this and, though rare, there is a chance. If you’re looking for a different option, we like Dietspotlight Burn because the ingredients are there and there’s not too much caffeine.

Flat Tummy Tea Scientific Abstracts:

Peppermint Leaf

Essential oils of the peppermint leaf are used in traditional medicines. The phenolic properties of the leaves include several flavanoids, luteolin, hesperidin, primarily eriocitrin, and rosmarinic acid. Peppermint has shown significant antimicrobial and antiviral properties in vitro, as well as high antitumor and antioxidant actions. There are an array of trials reported which examine the effects of peppermint oil on IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). At the same time, there are few human studies of peppermint leaf and no clinical trials. [1]

Fennel Seed

Analysis of data shows the efficacy of fennel in multiple in vitro and in vivo pharmacological properties such as antiviral, antimicrobial, antimutagenic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, cardiovascular, apoptotic, antispasmodic, antinociceptive, antithrombotic, chemo modulatory, antitumor, hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic, hypoglycemic, and memory enhancing properties. Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) has risen in notoriety as a good source of traditional medicine as well as delivering a noteworthy basis in pharmaceutical biology for the creation of new drugs and use in future clinical trials. [2]

Coriander Seed

Coriander possesses an essential oil (0.03-2.6%). It’s used as a spasmolytic, stomachic, and carminative which have higher bioactive properties. Belinda (Verified User)

worried. My Thyroid was removed. since taking the tea my eyes seem to be popping. Thinking taking the tea with thyroiid supplements may not be a good thing. If possible, please give advice.

Victoria (Editor)

Hi! Because of possible interactions with your thyroid, please make sure to consult with your physician before continuing to take this product.

Not sure how to use it

Is it OK to also pour the leaves in your cup and drink it?????

yes it is. I make my tea in a small pot. Boil the water & put in the tea. The more it boils, the tea will go to the bottom. When you pour it into the cup, the leaves stays in the bottom. Or use a spoon when pouring it to stop the leaves

Seeing all of these negative reviews makes me scared to try it. I just got it yesterday and today I was going to start

Too many horrible results,I have purchase some but don’t think I will be using it.

Victoria (Editor)

Hi. Please make sure he consults with his physician before continuing to take this product and let them know about the side effects he were experiencing.

I do 50 sit ups everyday but my tummy still looks bloated. So i was really excited to try this product. It’s my third day and so far all it does is give me excess gas and make me pee every 15 minutes. well, atleast I see a slight decrease in my stomach. But I’m not sure which is better; having a sightly flatter tummy with a farty pants or a bloated stomach. hmm…

Kristen Cooley

Flat tummy tea made me constipated for over 5 days! It has been a month since I tried it and my bowl movements have been terrible since wasting money on this product!

I’m currently in he’d with a piercing headache and very loose stools. I haven’t been able to keep anything in my body besides (barely) water. I’ve been drinking flat tummy tea for almost a week now and at first it was okay but now I feel like crap and there’s no other explanation for this. I feel like I’m about to implode and I just want the pain to end!!!

The flat tummy tea give me a sore throat for days.

i tried seeing if I could return this product because I literally drank the tea early in the morning and then went to the gym a couple hours later and was on the toilet for a good 15 minutes *before my workout and then 15 minutes *after my workout. My stomach was hurting so bad and I was having abdominal pain. They wouldn’t let me return it due to how I had already opened it and used it *once. how the heck are you supposed to know ahead of time how you’re going to react to this product and then spend 50 dollars on something that just makes you in pain

I tried this tea for the first time yesterday on my birthday and I already see the problem. I still have my wisdom teeth in and it irritated and swollen up my left side of my face. Very upset about that, I took NyQuil to clear it up but the tea also makes you gassy and sleepy.

Ieshia mahmud

I did feel an increase in my energy, but the tea started making me more bloated and gassy than normal so I stopped and it appears my body is retuning to normal. I will just start drinking green tea and plenty of water

Just because you see these celeb’s out there saying how good this product is and they use it just remember they are getting paid to say that. I tried this product and it constipated me and gave me the worse cramps and bloating. Thought it was suppose to do the opposite. I stopped using it after a week and I was back to normal. And they want give you your money back. Horrible product and horrible customer service. Think twice before you order.

Just started it yesterday and I can say it was alright. Yes it gives you almost contraction pains and sends you to the bathroom. But I was expecting this as it is cleaning out my insides. Good in taste as well. This tea reminds me of a cheaper supermarket tea called ” Te Manasul.”

After 1 day I have really bad body aches and I am so tired I dont have the energy to workout. Day 2 same result. I slept for 10hours and still took a 1.5 hour nap today. I can admit I’m not drinking as many liquids as I need to. Maybe I will try that.

Since my sister has ordered the tea its been 8 weeks we haven’t receive the tea up to now…

I should have researched first and read the reviews before I ordered this tea. My order was in November its December now still no tea and no response from company.

Now I’m nervous about ordering

Your Namecynthia

Ordered the tea and did not get it…..MAD AS HELL

I only use a pinch of tea, and I have a headache and wanna sleep smh

I got a headache too and this is my first time using it

Makes me dizzy and bad headache after 2 days

I have been taking FTT for over 1 month now and have just ordered my 2nd 4 week pack. I have had reasonable results but mostly seen a massive change in my skin. Much clearer and smoother. I do got to the bathroom a couple of times in the morning and I am definitely more regular but no bad side effects at al. Occasionally I am a little dehydrated but I do try to drink at least 2.5 litres of water to elejminate that. Overall I am happy with this tea and will continue with the FTT Next which is the product you purchase for the 2nd and ongoing months.

First day of use and felt very dizzy, had cold chills and my body temperature was extremely HOT!! Not yo mention the sleepiness that I couldn’t shake. The tea was the only new thing that I’ve tried so it has to be what’s causing my symptoms.

I have been drinking the flat tummy tea for 2 days now and I have been constipated. I have headache anytime I drink it and I feel cramps in my abdomen

i have been on this tea for a Month now bt there is no changes instead m gaining weight…guys this is a waiste of Money nd time

Hi Busi. You will need to refer to the Flat Tummy Tea official website to cancel your order. Hope you get this resolved.

It didn’t work for me at all. It ended up making me more bloated some days. I just felt really bad for the entire time I was on it and I really don’t think it did any good.

Very it did not work on you Why ?

I used the tea for a week and I was bloated and my face broke out with pimples all over my four head. I stop using the tea I’m not bloated anymore but these pimples on my forehead is horrible.

i wasn’t taking flat tummy tea everyday when I first got it,but after I started taking it consistent for a week now I feel dizzy and cold so I have stopped.

same here Berry. I feel like I’ve got fever and it gives me terrible headaches. I must stop.

NYC Girl

I started using the tea and 2 days in I started having heart burn and acid reflux. I was saying to myself what have I been eating lately, but then I realized I have been eating the same things and my body started to react differently once I started drinking the tea. I had gas stuck in my esophagus and it wasn’t coming out. It was quite painful. I stopped taking the tea and my body went back to normal a day later. I will no longer drink this tea!!!

Remember……all those celebs you see advertise this on their Instagram are being paid for it. Melissa Gorga, Snooki, Jwoww, Kim Zolciak, etc.

Your NameLisa

Headaches are from dehydration. Do not drink this if you have IBS………tend to have bouts with stress diarrea or had chemo therapy. Former chemo patients are prone to dehydration anyway. This is a liquid laxative…..nothing else.

Wow!! This is only my first day using it and i already have a headache. After reading the reviews i have been lead to believe that it has come from this tea

Jayy Frank

I have been using flat tummy tea for 4 days and…I am constipated.. I have had bad cramps since day 3 had a horrible headache day 2. and I will not be finishing this tea. I feel way more bloated now… I did read the reviews… but I still purchased… I should have kept my money.

S.A. Chic

Hi there…

I’m in no way putting the product on a pedestal but maybe the bloating, headaches and constipation are due to the system trying to detox all the junk one has been eating. Give it some time and see the results.

Victoria (Editor)

Hi. Please make sure to consult with your physician before continuing to take this product and let them know about the side effects you were experiencing.
