Flat Tummy Tea is being promoted by reality stars on their Instagram profiles, but does that mean it works? Our research team got to it, picking apart the ingredients and looking into potential side effects of the product. Next, we wanted to read through customer reviews – a lot of which were extremely negative. Then we hopped into the scientific research, trying to find something to get excited about. Finally, we summarized our findings to bring you the bottom line on this “tummy flattening” tea.

Flat Tummy Tea Readers: Click here to find out why we're giving away samples of our product, Burn HD.

What is Flat Tummy Tea?

Firstly, FlatTummy Tea is a drink kit, designed for detoxification. The kits consists of Activate and Cleanse. The ingredients are:

  • Senna
  • Taraxacum [1]
  • Galium aparineamellia
  • Camellia sinensis

You’re supposed to drink one glass in the morning and another in the evening. It’s claimed to increase energy expenditure so the body uses more calories, in turn, reducing weight. There is some evidence supporting some of the ingredients, but at the price of this product, you might be better off buying them separately.

Synergy CHC is the company behind FlatTummyTea. The brand was first introduced in 2013 and, like many others, pay celebrities and internet stars to promote their products.

While there’s nothing wrong with advertising, some celebs have been told by the UK-based Advertising Standards Authority to remove their photos due to false claims.[1]

Flat Tummy Tea Side Effects – “A Potential Issue?”

The first issue we found with Flat Tummy Tea ingredients was the potential for side effects. “Some of these reports may deal with the interaction of the natural diuretic dandelion and other supplements or prescription medications,” offered up our Research Editor.

One stated, “This one left me constipated. I thought it was supposed to help with that.”

“This tea is terrible, I tried it, and it’s tastes terrible and all it does is give you gas and make you go to the bathroom,” said another user who saw some Flat Tummy Tea side effects.

Not all customers experienced Flat Tummy Tea side effects. “Helped with bloating. Exercising keeps the weight off and eating healthy,” stated a user.

“Started on my day off just in case we had a bathroom issue. No bathroom issues with tummy tea,” commented another.

Flat Tummy Tea Customer Testimonials

Flat Tummy Tea Results – “What Can You Expect?”

Based on customer reviews, FT Four/FT Two results are not exactly what the consumer expected. “Reduced the bloat, but didn’t lose any weight,” commented a customer.

“Those posts online aren’t real. I didn’t lose weight like they did,” commented a customer who saw no Flat Tummy Tea results. [4]

Although there aren’t a lot of Flat Tummy Tea reviews posted, we did locate some customers that have tried the product and saw results. [5]

“Girls do see weight loss results if they pair our tea with a healthy diet and some exercise,” commented a customer.

Through years of research, we’ve found a connection between what seems small, like missing reviews, and a lesser chance of long-term success.

If Flat Tummy Tea is not honest about results and experiences, why would the consumer trust the company or the product?

Is the Flat Tummy Tea Cleanse Proven to Work?

The science side of Flat Tummy Tea is easy. Green tea extract is proven to help with weight-loss, [6] but you can buy that for less than $5 in your local vitamin shop. Other ingredients in the formula are geared toward reducing water [7] and increasing bowel movements. This is not effective means of helping you lose weight.

According to the Journal of American College Health, “Serious medical problems that may occur with laxative abuse include electrolyte and fluid imbalance, structural and functional colonic changes, and allergic reactions.”

The Bottom Line – Does Flat Tummy Tea Work?

Are we brewing up a cup right now? Well, we like the addition of green tea, but that’s not enough to curb our hesitations. We are uncomfortable giving this one our recommendation because using laxatives and diuretics for weight-loss can lead to nasty side effects, based on customer reviews and scientific research.

If you want to lose weight the natural, safe way, we suggest going with a supplement that’s made with clinically tested ingredients that don’t cause potentially harmful side effects.

Among the best products we’ve seen this year is one called Dietspotlight Burn. This one contains four ingredients; clinically-tested with results showing they can help to improve metabolism, suppress hunger and increase fat loss. We’ve read tons of user testimonials explaining some pretty fantastic results.

Plus, they’re so confident that you’ll love the supplement that they’re offering a Special Trial Offer, which is a good sign.

We dug deep into the Flat Tummy Tea ingredients to give you all of the important facts.

Taraxacum Leaf and Root

Commonly known as dandelion plant, taraxacum leaf and root are used in a number of internal cleansing supplements and herbal tea products. This herb is also found in some traditional medicines to treat upset stomach and gas.

What is it Supposed to Do?

Taraxacum is often used in cleansing and weight-loss products to increase urination. This plant contains some chemicals that boost urine production. This in turn may help with flushing out the kidneys and reducing excess water weight.

Clinical Research

There does not appear to be a solid link between taraxacum and fat loss. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine showed that “For the entire population (n = 17) there was a significant (p < 0.05) increase in the frequency of urination in the 5-hour period after the first dose.” [1] But, since this herb is a diuretic, it can lead to dehydration.

Senna Leaf and Pods

Senna is an herb that has been used for many years to treat constipation. Both the fruit and leaves of this plant are used to make some traditional medicine. Like many herbs, this ingredient is found in a number of diet pills and weight-loss teas.

What is it Supposed to Do?

The key component found in senna leaves and pods is sennosides. These chemicals basically irritate the lining of the intestines. This in turn causes a laxative effect. Therefore, this herb may help with internal cleansing, regularity and even reduce bloating.

Clinical Research

According to WebMD, “Taking senna by mouth is effective for short-term treatment of constipation. Senna is an FDA-approved nonprescription drug for adults and children ages 2 years and older.” However, this herb has not been proven to aid with weight-loss.

Galium Aparine

Sometimes referred to as cleavers, scarthgrass or bedstraw, galium aparine is an herb that contains chemicals called tannins. It has been used for centuries to treat conditions such as painful urination and fluid retention.

What is it Supposed to Do?

Some herbal cleansing teas and weight-loss supplements contain galium aparine to help promote urine flow and reduce retained water weight. It may also help with irritable bowel syndrome and flushing out the lymphatic system.

Clinical Research

Unfortunately we did not find a correlation between galium aparine and weight reduction. However, Cleavers have been “used to relieve edema and to promote urine formation during bladder infections,” according to the University of Michigan. [2]

There are several ingredients out there with clinical backing. The trouble is many companies fail to put more than one in a supplement at a time. Dietspotlight Burn offers four in one formula.

Flat Tummy Tea Scientific Abstracts

Peppermint Leaf

Essential oils of the peppermint leaf are used in traditional medicines. The phenolic properties of the leaves include several flavanoids, luteolin, hesperidin, primarily eriocitrin, and rosmarinic acid. Peppermint has shown significant antimicrobial and antiviral properties in vitro, as well as high antitumor and antioxidant actions. There are an array of trials reported which examine the effects of peppermint oil on IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). At the same time, there are few human studies of peppermint leaf and no clinical trials. [1]

Fennel Seed

Analysis of data shows the efficacy of fennel in multiple in vitro and in vivo pharmacological properties such as antiviral, antimicrobial, antimutagenic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, cardiovascular, apoptotic, antispasmodic, antinociceptive, antithrombotic, chemo modulatory, antitumor, hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic, hypoglycemic, and memory enhancing properties. Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) has risen in notoriety as a good source of traditional medicine as well as delivering a noteworthy basis in pharmaceutical biology for the creation of new drugs and use in future clinical trials. [2]

Coriander Seed

Coriander possesses an essential oil (0.03-2.6%). It’s used as a spasmolytic, stomachic, and carminative which have higher bioactive properties. Various sections of the plant (seeds, leaves, flowers, and fruit) showcase antioxidant activity as well as anticonvulsant, sedative-hypnotic, diuretic, anti-diabetic, anti-mutagenic, anti-microbial, and anthelmintic activities. Coriander is rich in antioxidants and could have the ability to delay the onset of a variety of age-related diseases. It is concluded that urgency be shown in an effort to explore the roles of these compounds.[3]

Dandelion Root

Studies have shown T. Officinale(dandelion) to increase urinary frequency. For all the participants involved (n = 17) there was a substantial increase (p < 0.05) in the frequency of urination for 5 hours following the first dose. There was also a significant increase (p < 0.001) in the excretion ratio within the period of 5 hours following the second dose. In conclusion, based on the data compiled from the human trials, ethanolic dandelion extracts show extreme promise as a diuretic in humans. [4]

Caraway Seed

Results suggest that cold-pressed black caraway may serve as a dietary source of antioxidant for the promotional of health and prevention of disease. Cold-pressed black caraway seed oil may be used in foods as a natural antioxidant, to improve quality. [5]

Lemon Grass

Lemon Grass essential oil (LGEO) showed promising antifungal effects against C. tropicalis, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus niger with different IZDs (inhibition zone diameters) (35–90 mm). For evaluating the anti-inflammatory effects, lemon grass essential oil (10 mg/kg, administered orally) significantly reduced carrageenan-induced paw edema with similar results to that reported for oral diclofenac (50 mg/kg). In conclusion, it has been indicated that lemon grass essential oils have a stunning potential for the development of drugs for fungal infection treatment and skin inflammation. [6]

Hey Belinda. Thyroid medications, like Synthyroid can cause all kinds of issues when taken with supplements. We have not found a direct connection between Flat Tummy Tea and bulging eyes.

What’s interesting is that this is a symptom of a goiter, but you can’t have a goiter if your thyroid is removed.

yes it is. I make my tea in a small pot. Boil the water & put in the tea. The more it boils, the tea will go to the bottom. When you pour it into the cup, the leaves stays in the bottom. Or use a spoon when pouring it to stop the leaves

Hi. Yes, its okay. It should steep in a cup of hot water for 5-7 minutes before drinking. One teaspoon of tea is needed to make a single serving. You also need to consume one cup of the Cleanse Tea every other night before going to sleep.

My stomach was hurting so bad and I was having abdominal pain. They wouldn’t let me return it due to how I had already opened it and used it *once. how the heck are you supposed to know ahead of time how you’re going to react to this product and then spend 50 dollars on something that just makes you in pain

I do got to the bathroom a couple of times in the morning and I am definitely more regular but no bad side effects at al. Occasionally I am a little dehydrated but I do try to drink at least 2.5 litres of water to elejminate that. Overall I am happy with this tea and will continue with the FTT Next which is the product you purchase for the 2nd and ongoing months.

I think it’s boogus just as stated above the ingredients can be found in a cheaper tea called smooth move for $5. Also senna causes cramping its horrible and nausea etc this is a reaction that is true from this tea.

Other teas are out there with similar ingredients at a smaller price. What we worry about is that teas are a short-term solution. That’s why we tend to lean toward products like Dietspotlight Burn with clinically tested ingredients.

I was left felling gassy and a horrible breakout on my face. 2 things I never had a problem with. I used it for a wk nothing different. I workout 4/5 days a wk and eat healthy this tea was a waste of money

What a waste of money the amount you receive is absurd even if you purchase the larger portion then they don’t even put product in tea bags therefore if you don’t own a tea diffuser you have to purchase one the whole process is a time consuming headache the flavor is bland & if you let it steep longer it gets cold now for the results WHAT RESULTS?! Also a headache is acquired from the ingredients along with vomiting after a couple of cups all in all I was duped & I feel robbed

Do not recommend. I workout regularly and maintain a decent diet, just wanted a flatter tummy. This tea gave me a lot of gas. Wish I had read the reviews.
