The company claims their ready to drink meals is the answer to conventional meals, but our research team wasn’t sure. Are they safe? Do they promote weight loss? Eating is about more than sustenance; it’s an enjoyable experience. Most people would grow bored if they had to eat the same thing every day.
We studied the nutrition facts and listened to what social media users had to say about this futuristic meal option to give you the bottom line.
Soylent can be purchased through their Official Site.
What is Soylent?
Soylent is complete nutrition in a bottle. It was created in the hopes of replacing conventional meals. These drinks, powders, and nutrition bars contain all of the protein, carbohydrates, lipids, and macronutrients you need for a balanced diet.
It takes traditional meal replacement shakes a step further. They recommend that you swap all of your regular meals with Soylent products. You’ll be in complete control of your nutrition, lose weight, and potentially experience multiple health benefits.
Soylent also offers an ambassador program. Apparently, ambassadors can earn $10 for every purchase made.

How Did Soylent Start?
Rob Rhinehart, a software engineer from California, felt that preparing and eating a meal was a waste of time. He wanted to create a meal replacement drink that contained all the elements of a complete meal without the saturated fat or added sugars.
Rhinehart used an engineer’s approach to problem-solving when he created Soylent. He chose the 35 chemical ingredients he felt were necessary for human life. Rhinehart combined those ingredients with water and existed solely on the mixture for the next thirty days. He spent the following two months refining the formula. Not only did Rhinehart lose weight, but he also reduced his monthly grocery bill by $420.
Soylent was launched in 2013, and the company raised $74.5 million in funding by 2017. The name came from a 1966 science fiction novel by Harry Harrison.
The shake is manufactured and distributed by Rosa Foods. There have been several recalls associated with the brand. On October 12, 2016, the Soylent Bar was pulled from store shelves because it caused gastrointestinal illness. Multiple customers experienced nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting after eating the meal replacement bar.
Later that month, Rosa Foods halted production of Soylent Powder after several customers complained of gastrointestinal symptoms. They later released an updated version that was deemed safe for consumption.
The product line is:
- Complete nutrition
The meal replacement supplement contains:
- High Oleic Sunflower Oil
The protein comes from soy. Soy products are derived from the Glycine max legume, also known as the soybean.
Science Daily researchers found evidence that soy can promote weight loss in obese individuals.
A review of 2000 clinical studies on soy, published in Nutrients, found that, despite widespread concerns, soy is generally safe and has numerous health benefits.
Isomaltulose is a simple sugar made of fructose and glucose. Several studies, including one published in the Journal of Food and Nutrition, found that isomaltulose may have prebiotic effects.
High Oleic Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil is high in monounsaturated fats and low in trans fats. Monounsaturated fats are healthy fats that reduce cholesterol levels. Trans fats are unhealthy, processed fats that should be avoided.
Soylent also contains vitamins, minerals, lipids, and macronutrients.

Soylent Benefits and Results
Soylent is currently trending on social media, but it has nothing to do with weight loss. A few amateur mixologists combined the meal replacement with alcohol to create a boozy meal replacement shake. We’re told that it tastes terrible.
Even if Soylent cocktails were delicious, you should avoid alcohol if you’re serious about losing weight. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation found that our bodies will burn alcohol for fuel before they burn lipids from fat or glucose from carbohydrates. The excess lipids and glucose end up as adipose tissue. Adipose tissue is another name for body fat.
What do people who aren’t mixing it with alcohol think of these ready to drink meals? The Soylent reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive. Customers love the taste, nutritional value, and convenience of use.
Some customers are unhappy that this product uses isomaltulose. Others report experiencing gas, bloating, and indigestion after drinking Soylent drinks. Several reviewers refused to try the product line because of the company’s pro-GMO stance.
Details on Soylent and Weight Loss
Many social media users report trying the Soylent diet. The diet involves only eating or drinking the products for thirty days.
A study published in the Nutrition Journal suggests that a meal replacement diet is an effective weight control method.
How to Use Soylent
Eat or drink three Soylent products a day.

Potential Soylent Side Effects
There were gastrointestinal side effects reported with earlier versions of the meal replacement.
“This powder turns just water and ice into a nice silky texture for a protein shake. No milk needed! I mix in some other flavored power(s) or something raw to give it some flavor, as this is a neutral base.”
“Did a good job as advertised as a meal replacement but the taste as another reviewer stated is like drinking pancake batter. I added some fresh blueberries and strawberries with little effect on flavor.”
“It tastes and smells like play-dough with an even worse aftertaste.”
Bottom Line on Soylent
The only diets that work are the ones you can actually follow. Is drinking the same exact meal every single day realistic? Our research team didn’t think so. Soylent is a high-quality meal replacement, but it doesn’t appear to be a long term weight loss solution.
A balanced diet that includes a variety of foods is your best bet when it comes to weight loss. Combine that with an active lifestyle and a metabolism-boosting diet supplement, and your dreams of losing weight will become a reality.
