Overview

What is Vital Reds?

Vital Reds, manufactured by the reputable health-focused company Gundry MD, is a dietary supplement enriched with superfruits and probiotics. This supplement aims to provide various health benefits to its users by harnessing the power of polyphenols—micronutrients essential for diverse bodily functions, typically obtained from natural sources like plant-based foods.

Vital Reds combines the potency of 34 polyphenol-rich superfruits with natural fat-burning ingredients and premium probiotics. The proclaimed advantages of Vital Reds include fatigue reduction, enhanced digestion, increased energy, improved antioxidant provision, and support for weight loss. The supplement is designed to be side-effect-free, leveraging the natural composition of its ingredients.

Despite its relatively high cost, Gundry MD offers various discount options and a 90-day money-back guarantee, making Vital Reds accessible for those seeking potential health benefits from this dietary supplement.

Let’s take a quick look at polyphenols and what science has to say.

  • Nutrients – One source of polyphenols in Vital Reds is green tea. Tea polyphenols come with a long list of potential health benefits.
  • International Journal of Food Properties – “Plant-derived functional foods are gaining considerable attention due to their safety and therapeutic potentials.”
  • Nutrition Bulletin – “Polyphenols are found in plant‐based foods and beverages, notably apples, berries, citrus fruit, plums, broccoli, cocoa, tea and coffee and many others. There is substantial epidemiological evidence that a diet high in polyphenol‐rich fruit, vegetables, cocoa and beverages protects against developing cardiovascular [problems]….”

How Did It Start?

How Did Vital Reds Start?

Dr. Steven Gundry has developed some firm opinions about the importance of nutrition for health through his 40-year career as a physician. These are available by way of his website and multiple books:

  • “Dr. Gundry’s Diet Evolution”
  • “The Plant Paradox”
  • “The Plant Paradox Cookbook”
  • “Plant Paradox: Quick and Easy”
  • “The Longevity Paradox: How to Die Young at a Ripe Old Age”
  • “The Plant Paradox Family Cookbook”

That is how the idea for Vital Reds ingredients originated.

This product started with the conviction held by Dr. Gundry that polyphenols are such an essential micronutrient for the human body and that getting enough of them in your diet can induce a complete transformation in health.

Dr. Gundry’s convictions about the pros and cons of Vital Reds are strong enough for him to offer a 90-day money-back guarantee to new users if they do not feel completely satisfied by the health boost they should experience.

Other products by Gundry MD include Bio Complete 3, Total Restore, Energy Renew, ProPlant Complete Shake, Active Advantage, PrebioThrive, Lectin Shield, MCT Wellness, Power Blues, Metabolic Advanced, Primal Plants, and TriTrim.

Vital Reds Claims

Claims

Vital Reds Claims

The claims made on the Vital Reds website are numerous.

The makers of Vital Reds claim that the supplement will enhance your available bio-energy to keep performing at the height of your potential. They also claim that the pills will nourish your skin with crucial micronutrients (polyphenols) to look healthier.

The supplement may give you a feeling of improved energy – “that feeling of pure energy” that comes from the proper absorption and usage of the nutrients you ingest.

Vital Reds will help prevent bloating sensations or digestive gas formation after meals and help you have healthier, softer bowel movements.

Lastly, Vital Reds claims that it will allow you to keep voluntary control of your weight. This is a bold claim and one we took time to investigate thoroughly.

Ingredients

Vital Reds Ingredients

The Vital Reds ingredients list is very long and complex. It is comprised of four proprietary formulas: the polyphenol blend, the metabolic-enhancing blend, the digestive support blend, and the vitamin and mineral blend.

Each of these blends is made from at least 5 different ingredients so the total count of Vital Reds ingredients is higher than 50.

On the label, the ingredients are separated into three different sections: the Reds blend, metabolic blend, and digestive support blend.

It’s impractical to deal with all 50 ingredients individually, and it would also be irrelevant as most of them are simply fruit or vegetable extracts.

We will limit ourselves to talking about each of the proprietary formulas, their purpose, and the most notable ingredients in each.

Vital Reds

Polyphenol Blend

As stated above, polyphenols are a large chemical family (over 8,000 forms of polyphenols have been identified) which the body can use as antioxidants and micronutrients.

Micronutrients are chemicals needed by living organisms in only trace amounts, such as vitamins and minerals. The main function known to be performed by polyphenols is to act as antioxidants within the body.

That is the reason why all Vital Reds ingredients in the polyphenols blend are extracts of fruits such as:

  • Aronia Berries
  • Grape Seed Extract
  • Mulberry Extract

Other healthy foods in this blend include apple peel, organic beetroot, watermelon, and more. In total, there are 34 sources of polyphenols in the formula.

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionaronia berries can improve the gut microbe content, while the Journal of Food Science and Technology found that grape seed extract has a number of health benefits.

Pharmaceutical Biology found that mulberry could benefit the cardio-metabolic system.

Metabolism-Boosting Blend

This part of the formula also contains several plant extracts such as :

  • Bitter Melon Extract
  • Green Tea Extract
  • Ginger Root
  • Cinnamon Bark Extract

Many of these are known to have important health benefits when consumed on their own. These ingredients are chosen for their potential to boost the human metabolism, thus making more energy available so users will feel more inclined to exercise. This creates the energetic deficit that accounts for weight loss (in simpler terms, to eat less and exercise more).

Cinnamon is considered a remedy for a number of ailments in traditional medicine, according to BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies

According to the Journal of Lipidsbitter melon may have antioxidant effects, but its effects on obesity still need to be determined.

Something to notice in this blend is that some of the ingredients contain caffeine, which is well known to be a stimulant of the central nervous system. This should not be overlooked by people who already like to drink more than a cup of coffee (or tea), as excessive caffeine may cause side-effects.

Digestive Support Blend

This is a different kind of blend. It is not made from plant extracts but from probiotics – useful bacteria that live in the digestive system and helps with proper digestion, immune system health and other critical functions.

There are several strains of good bacteria that are very useful for humans as probiotics, including:

  • Bacillus coagulans
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus
  • Bifidobacterium lactis
  • L. Reuteri

These helpful bacteria add up to three million units of probiotics capable of starting colonies within the human digestive tract, says the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

Vitamin and Mineral Blend

This is the blend most people would easily recognize as beneficial since vitamins and minerals are not just essential for the body’s health but have become very popular in recent decades due to the wider media vaunting their benefits.

On the nutritional label, the vitamins provided include:

  • Thiamine – 1.5 mg
  • Riboflavin – 1.7 mg
  • Niacin – 20 mg
  • Vitamin B6 – 2 mg
  • Folate – 667 mcg
  • Vitamin B12 – 6 mcg
  • Biotin – 300 mcg
  • Pantothenic Acid – 10 mg
  • Selenium – 70 mcg
  • Chromium – 200 mcg

However, many more vitamins and minerals are in the supplement due to the high number or fruit and vegetable concentrates.

Effectiveness

Do Vital Reds Work?

There is no reliable scientific way to answer this question at present.

Dr. Gundry’s commitment to this product is firm, as attested by the Vital Reds coupon he offers on his website or the 90-day money-back guarantee.

Also, no shortage of Vital Reds reviews expresses a very high opinion of the powder in question.

Many of the formula ingredients are known to be beneficial and produce essential health benefits when used as food. There is a lot of scientific proof to support many of the individual ingredients’ capacity to improve health.

But so far, there is no available scientific study assessing the effects of Vital Reds specifically, and this should be the kind of information used when a definitive decision is required. The reason for the lack of research is not clear, but it is important nevertheless.

Vital Reds benefits

Think about Vital Reds vs. primal plants. In other words, think about getting the beneficial micronutrients you need from eating actual food, instead of getting them from a pill packed with food extracts.

If you like to start your day with a cup of coffee, you may know you can sometimes have too much of a good thing. A good coffee cup in the morning will get you awake and alert and can help you start a new day on a good note – but if you overdo it, you may get nervous, paranoid, get the jitters and suffer other adverse effects.

Because the beneficial chemicals present in Vital Reds are highly concentrated, you may find yourself exaggerating your polyphenol ingestion without even knowing it. This could have risks that are not understandable at this time.

For now, the only way to know for sure is for every individual user to try the supplement and keep meticulous track of the benefits (or lack thereof) that Vital Reds gives them.

Weight Loss

Details On Vital Reds and Weight Loss

The Vital Reds is a dietary supplement sold with the primary mission of losing weight. It is an aid to achieving general well-being and good health.

One of the four proprietary blends it includes, however, is designed to give users a metabolism boost that will make more energy available. This may encourage its users to feel more capable of and ingest fewer calories, kickstarting the calorie debt that prompts loss weight.

So, no, this is not a dietary supplement aimed directly at those who want to lose some weight, but it claims it will make it at least slightly more manageable for those who want to try it with that goal in mind.

Directions

How To Use Vital Reds?

A definite pro in the pros and cons of Vital Reds must be how easy it is to use. You add a scoop of the powder to the beverage of your choice and drink it. One scoop a day is all that is required, according to Dr. Gundry himself.

You should consume one scoop a day consistently to achieve maximum benefits. According to Dr. Gundry, you don’t have to take the supplement with a meal, as the supplement is “easily digestible.”

Vital Reds also offers travel packs of their supplement. To use, mix one packet with water or any other beverage.

Side Effects

Vital Reds Side Effects

According to the makers of Vital Reds, there are no side effects.

However, one should keep in mind that one of the stated purposes of Vital Reds is to deliver a very high dosage of polyphenols to the body (besides probiotics and other supplementation). Therefore one should be very careful about believing there are no Vital-Reds side-effects possible at all.

Also, keep in mind that we don’t know much about polyphenols. They come in a wide variety of different chemicals that have not been thoroughly studied and evaluated by the scientific community regarding their safety in large doses. Research is still needed before their effects can be understood.

Vital Reds warnings

These effects were found only in situations where the number of polyphenols ingested was much higher than what you could get from only eating your fruits and vegetables in a balanced diet.

But of course, the whole point in Vital Reds is to pump your body full of polyphenols, so potential users might consider this before trying it, or committing to long-term use.

So, while there is no scientific information available to challenge the claim about side effects from Vital Reds, there are at least some scientific signs. Primarily showing polyphenols may cause side effects, based on a piece published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Product Warnings

Vital Reds Product Warnings

The only statement that could remotely be such is that consulting your professional health provider is always a highly recommended course of action before starting with any new program or regime.

Lawsuits

Any Vital Reds Lawsuits?

While we found some strong and severe complaints made by unhappy Vital Reds review writers, no information came to light that either Dr. Gundry or his Vital Reds supplement has ever been in court.

Though there have been some complaints made about Dr. Gundry, his rating stays at an A+ from the BBB.

Alternatives

Vital Reds Alternatives

Because the Vital Reds ingredients list is so complicated and its effects on the body so varied, and its claims being so broad – it is tough to assess possible alternatives.

Most of the dietary supplementation market products are usually more specialized, focusing on a single goal for a supplement, such as weight loss, improved energy, improved mental clarity, etc.

Other products that offer similar characteristics to Vital Reds (according to a Vital Reds review perusal) are those found under the tag of “Colon Cleansers.”

The most well-known and best-reviewed products are Colopril, Quicktrim Fast Cleanse, Digestit Colon Cleanse, Bowtrol, Zymbiotix, and SuperBeets. All of these products have mostly favorable reviews by their users.

Totally disagree with the “Taste” comments on this site. My wife, daughter and I are all using Vital Reds daily and have no issue with the taste, and I personally think it taste great. Also, other than the fact that this website venue is geared towards weight loss, I’m not sure why there is a weight loss conversation associated with Vital Reds here as I don’t recall the Dr. Gundry website or videos mentioning anything associated with weight loss. We’ve been using the product for about 4+ months and are please with results. The only downside I would agree with here, and what I’ve read elsewhere, is the price. Vital Reds is expensive. If I could ascertain that a lower cost competing product was as high quality, both in production and actual ingredients, then I would definitely try that product. Lastly, I notice many people citing no noticeable benefits after using the product for a week or two or a little more and that doesn’t seem sensible to me. True benefits from nutritional changes take time to kick in. We’re not talking about weight loss here, but instead systemic changes in health associated with fatigue, skin symptoms, and more. My personal belief is that 90 days is the timeframe for the body to adapt and benefit from nutritional changes that ultimately affect the liver and thyroid where all the important long term good (or bad) things happen.

I have been using Vital Reds for almost a year. When I first started using the product I didn’t think it did much for me so after 4 months I quit taking it and found I had less energy. So I started up again. The best thing it has done for me is getting my cholesterol down to normal. It was always high before. My last two tests have been normal. My doctors are very pleased. If you want a better price purchase several at the same time and save.

I took Gundry Vital Reds for a 3 month period and found it to be excellent. I did not want it for weight loss, but rather to give more energy, which it did. I did not take it on its own in water, but added it to my morning smoothy which gave the smoothy a delicious berry-like taste, although it was a bit on the sweet side. I am definitely considering ordering more Vital Reds and although I do agree that it is a bit pricey, it is comparable with other products of that calibre and quality that I have tried i.e. Yuri Elkaims Energy Greens.

  • How much sugar is in it? Even Naturally accuring sugar, How much? I can taste the sweetness. :)

I really like to know the sugar content of this product. I ordered and received and mixed and then it tasted sweet . Called the product support of the company and they said there are no sugars in the mix. I looked it up on their site and the internet and it says that it has no sugar in it. I do not take any sugar with my daily food unless I feel like it but I have a very good nose and taste buds 🙂 and can detect sweetness or any unique smell of things and I know there must be sugar in this as I most often can not stand sugar unless I feel I need it like a bit after work out… But this powder is sweet and I really like to know how much sugar I am taking in with every scoop of this product. I like to know what amount of what I am actually ingesting with most everything I eat but I have no idea about this one and so as much as I like to give it a good try and was excited to receive it I can not take it if I do not know the sugar contents. The un-mixed powder did taste like aspartame which I would be horrendously surprised if such thing is in it but it does smell and taste like it. Of course when I called their support number they said no it does not have any artificial sweetener including such thing as aspartame. Any way I would doubt it for a product made by a heart surgeon to have such things as aspartame, but I want to know what is the sweet taste and how much sugar is in each scoop.

It has stevia which is a “natural” sugar substitute. So no sugar. As far as sugar substitutes go, this is probably the best option, but natural sugar is still probably better.

Read the other ingredients on the bottle and you will find one of the artificial sweetener is in their stronger than Stevia. It has a chemical name. Search each one of them cause I did want to know and I found it there.

I would like you to know that I think these bad reviews are off the wall. I am 74 yrs of age now and Vital reds has been the best for me. It has increased my memory which was driving me crazy. I would walk into a room and could not remember why or what I was looking for. ! was 200lbs and wanted to lose some weight. It has increased my energy a lot. I recently went to my doctor for a wellness check up. My doctor said that my HDL level was one of the best ones he has seen in a long time and when I showed him what I was taking he said continue what you are doing because it is working for you. As far as the taste goes it tastes great too. Kind of a berry taste. Results for me. weight lose 15 lbs after 6 weeks. Much more energy and memory retention, I feel renewed and I am going to order more today. price I paid for 3 small plastic containers was about 134.00 and some change. Was it worth it YES.

      Starr,
The instructions from their website say: Simply mix one scoop of this powder into a glass of water or beverage of your choice and it’s ready to go. Drink just one glass a day on a consistent basis. The formula digests easily so you can take it with or without a meal, whenever you’d like.

Just another gimmick to make money. Spend a little extra on the fruit. Natural food is the best source for you. Never a powder, blend, mix, etc. If you think about it extracting anything from a plant or fruit is good to take out vital nutrients no matter what. Like I say just eat the natural fruit.

Just buy the fruits? Eat ’em before they spoil. If you can find them in season; the fruits with pesticide, herbicide, and fungicide residue? How much to eat? At least one truckload per day. Shopping and preparing only cost time; time I have not. Oh, and have you read the good doctor’s credentials? What are your credentials?

A simple daily smoothie of this Vital Red could possibly help you, why not give it shot? It’s pricey, but people purchase VENTI STARBUCks drinks 3 or more times a day. That’s pricey!

I do not see stevia on the label but there are lots of fruit powder that would be sweet like pineapple, watermelon, apple, grapes etc. They don’t take the sugar out the many fruits before they make the powder! It is different tasting because of the many types of fruit. I feel this is much better and safer than the fruits we are seeing in the grocery store and they don’t have the probiotics which good ones like in this mix are expensive!

I am always fatigued. This was the main reason I decided to buy this product. The claims for energy and the probiotic effects seemed appealing. I have been using this product for 11 days now. I think it taste good but the texture is not good. It doesn’t dissolve well. I have tried shaken and stirred in cold water, ice water, hot water, juice and 7-up. Too much of remains undissolved and gritty.
I have not noticed any energy increase which is highly disappointing.
There is a huge negative that I continue to experience and that is bad gas. Every time I take this product I become bloated and will have gas for at least 5 hours.
My recommendation would be to not buy this product. Though it may help some people it really doesn’t seem worth the extremely high price.

The bad gas may be because of the cultures included (Lactobacillus, etc). It can take a couple weeks for your gut to get used to them if you have not been on a culture supplement before.

I am a Nurse Practitioner and this is absolutely correct. As the intestines adjust and balance as they should with the correct probiotics some people can experience GI symptoms such as bloating, flatulence and stool changes. These usually resolve in 2-3 weeks.

I also had increased gas. It makes the day harder at work where you have to be careful not to let loose
I would have to take a trip to the restroom just to expel gas!

Yes! It is good. People expect miracles in 24 hrs but this is an excellent product and your leaky gut or biological problems won’t go away instantly and may be worse as the other medical person said temporarily. I am a RN, and it has helped me a lot with bloating, energy, feeling better, normalized BMs and I am 70 + and these things were becoming problems but no longer! Personally I would never buy and eat all those healthy foods without having to throw some away! I believe the Docs processing gets rid of chemicals on the fruit etc! Good Luck!

You need to take it longer than 11 days to see the full results. My mother and I both started to notice increased energy after 2 to 3 weeks of taking this product. I noticed that I didn’t need as much sleep each night which was great. I was starting to feel like I was sleeping my life away. Now instead of 9+ hours a night, I feel refreshed after 7 hours.

I just started taking Vital Reds a couple of weeks ago and although this product is not considered a “weight loss” product, I have noticed it curbing my sweet tooth, and my appetite, which helps me eat less, which results in losing weight. I haven’t had ice cream in a week and anyone that knows me, knows I’m a huge ice-cream eater. I just haven’t desired it at night. I love the TASTE! Sometimes I have two a day. Again, its only been a couple of weeks. I think I want to try the Primal Plants next.

I’m not one to be able to lose weight no matter what I do, so happy surprise. The taste is ok it dissolves easily. I will be ordering again but want the special deal for 6 jars.

The taste is quite good actually. I do wonder if it has caffeine though, I can hardly sit still after taking it.

How much caffeine is actually in a serving of this product compared to a cup of coffee! For example, Is one scoop equal to the caffeine in a cup of coffee??

I have been taking vital reds for a month now. First I want to say I have cardiovascular issues, and chronic kidney disease. Currently taking Plavix to prevent another MI as well as low dose aspirin. Since taking vital reds my energy has improved, I have no problem with the taste, (I mix it with a glass half full with distilled water, a scoop of vital reds, and 2 Tbsp. concentrated tart cherry juice). And always after I eat something. My question is this: Does any of the ingredients thin the blood? Saturday I got up with a bleed on my lower lip. Not anything worse, but maybe the combination of Plavix, baby aspirin, and vital reds may be too much. What do you advise?
