Is Hydroxycut Safe - Do You Have to Worry About These Supplements?
One of the more popular names in the supplement industry is Hydroxycut, but is Hydroxycut safe? We decided to dig deeper into the product line by going through ingredients, clinical research and comments. (Feel free to check out the full Hydroxycut review.) Dieter reviews were an important part of the process. We then collected the info and condensed it to give you the bottom line.
What is Hydroxycut?
To start, Hydroxycut is a line of weight-loss supplements offered in stimulant and non-stimulant varieties. Common ingredients include caffeine, green coffee and yohimbe. With daily use you are supposed to lose more weight. The bottles are small enough to take with you, a benefit.
The product, introduced by Iovate Health Sciences after 2006, uses what look like all-natural ingredients, a good option. You can find the supplements at retailers all over the place, so buying them is not hard. We like that the formula details are offered online and the prices are good, but read on…
Hydroxycut Side Effects – “Mild?”
The first issue we came across with Hydroxycut ingredients was side effects. “When looking at dietary supplements, it’s always good to consider the formula,” said our Research Editor. “Ones containing stimulants could cause mild reactions.”
“No side effects for first 5 days, then some nausea and a slight headache,” said a customer.
“Had a small headache. I think I took too much, so I cut back some and I was okay,” said another user.
FDA Warnings and Voluntary Recall – “Very Interesting”
Is Hydroxycut safe is a question the FDA asked when reports starting coming in about some adverse side effects associated with the products. It took 23 complaints before the government took the problems to Hydroxycut. The company chose to voluntarily recall nearly 15 supplements. They were off the market for quite a while before a new formula could be created.
According to the FDA, “symptoms include nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools, excessive fatigue, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite.”
Dr. Linda Katz a bit of advice. “Consumers should consult a physician or other health care professional if they are experiencing symptoms possibly associated with these products.”
Our research shows a connection between negative issues, like side effects, and a reduced chance of long-term success. If dieters are wondering – is Hydroxycut safe – they need to take this into consideration.
What Does Science Say?
We found mention of clinical research on the Hydroxycut website, but no link to the study. It is also interesting that only one ingredient was used with participants. If only one is needed to lose weight, why are the rest included in the formulas? At DietSpotlight science is what we’re looking for to give you the answer to one question – is Hydroxycut safe? If we can’t find the information you need, we can’t give you the facts.
The Bottom Line – Is Hydroxycut Safe?
So, do we have to worry about this one? We were intrigued with this product line and wanted to let you know – is Hydroxycut safe? Our research gave us the answer. We like that Iovate Health Sciences has a strong BBB rating and there are some positive dieter reviews, but we feel skeptical about getting behind the line because the company doesn’t bother to share clinical research. We’re also concerned with the FDA interaction and reports of adverse side effects.
If it’s your time to shed those extra pounds, we suggest going with a supplement packed with clinically tested and proven ingredients that don’t carry the risk of side effects.
Among the best supplements we’ve seen this year is one called Dietspotlight Burn. The company uses a four-ingredient proprietary blend that is clinically proven to help speed up metabolism and boost fat loss. We didn’t find a single dieter reporting negative side effects. But, users are talking about the great results they’re seeing.
Also, Dietspotlight Burn’s makers are so confident in the formula, they’re offering a Special Trial Offer.

We did some serious digging into the question Is Hydroxycut Safe by looking at the ingredients in order to provide you with the important facts.
Robusta Coffee Bean Extract
Robusta coffee bean extract is also known as green coffee. Unlike coffee beans used to make the beverage, it has not been roasted. This makes it high in chlorogenic acid. This ingredient is found in a number of over-the-counter diet supplements for weight-loss.
What is it Supposed to Do?
Robusta coffee bean extract is often claimed to help with weight reduction. More specifically, the chlorogenic acid is supposed to slow down the release of sugar into the bloodstream. This in turn helps prevent fat gain. It’s also claimed to lower blood pressure.
There is some research that has linked green coffee bean extract to reduced blood pressure. According to WebMD, “Early research suggests that taking green coffee extracts containing 50 mg to 140 mg of chlorogenic acids daily for 4 weeks to 12 weeks can reduce blood pressure in Japanese adults with mild and untreated high blood pressure.”
Clinical testing is a crucial part of the equation when it comes to selecting a diet supplement. This is why you may want to take a look at a product such as Dietspotlight Burn. It contains key ingredients that have been well researched.
Papaya fruit is native to regions like South America and Mexico. It’s often consumed on its own and used in various dishes. This fruit provides plenty of vitamin C, as well as some pantothenic acid, copper, folate, potassium, magnesium, vitamin A and fiber.
What is it Supposed to Do?
Papaya fruit is low in calories and high in fiber. Therefore, it will not cause weight gain when consumed in moderation, but may help keep you fuller longer. It may also assist with colon health and more regular bowel movements.
Some research does suggest that this fruit is linked to weight reduction. For instance, “Papaya is a nutritious fruit choice, providing significant amounts of fiber, folate and vitamins A and C. People who eat more vegetables and fruits, such as papaya, tend to lose more weight, according to a study published in Nutrition Research in April 2008. In this study, each 3 1/2-ounce-per-day increase in fruit intake led to an extra 10.6 ounces, or about 2/3 pound, of weight-loss during the six-month course of the study.”
Caffeine anhydrous is essentially caffeine, but without the water. It’s dehydrated, and is often used in powders and pills. Furthermore, it’s common to find this ingredient in energy products/drinks and weight-loss supplements.
What is it Supposed to Do?
Caffeine anhydrous is a stimulant and diuretic. It’s often used in diet pills and weight-loss products to help boost metabolism, increase energy levels, reduce fatigue and enhance alertness.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “Caffeine may stimulate thermogenesis — one way your body generates heat and energy from digesting food.” Furthermore, it goes on to say that, “Caffeine may reduce your desire to eat for a brief time.”
