Valentus is involved in a lawsuit that was filed by Advanced Laboratories back at the end of 2016.

According to the lawsuit, Advanced laboratories had signed a supplier contract in early 2016 with Valentus. The agreement stated that Advanced Laboratories was supposed to supply Valentus two containers measuring 40,124 lbs. of dry roasted coffee. The total cost of the two containers was $3.7 million. The contract also included the packaging of the coffee into 630,000 boxes of single-serve sachets.

In June 2016, Advanced Laboratories purchased the first coffee container and made 315,000 boxes. In July, Advanced Laboratories was paid $600,000 for 100,000 of the boxes. Advanced Laboratories states it was agreed that the remaining 215,000 boxes would be bought when the boxes manufactured from the second container were going to be delivered. Therefore, based on this particular agreement, in August, Advanced Laboratories went ahead and bought the second container of coffee.

It’s unclear whether the manufactured coffee was put into sachet boxes or not. However, in December, Valentus informed Advanced Laboratories that they wouldn’t be buying any more coffee. For Advanced Laboratories, this was a breach of contract, and thus they are demanding $3,180,000 in damages apart from the prejudgment interest and consequential and incidental costs.

As a counterclaim, Valentus has denied all the allegations made by Advanced Laboratories. A tentative trial has been set up for December 2018.

UPDATE: As of August 2017, the Valentus coffee company was shut down due to illegal activity in the U.K. According to the company’s founder, Miss England finalist Charlotte Thomson, “My business has been completely taken away from me, out of my control and I’m devastated. But, I’ve got to move on. I’m not the first this has happened to, and I certainly won’t be the last.” As of February 2018, the companies have settled.
